Credit where credit is due 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I have set my float level using the dry method. I have set my float level using a clear tube with the carb on the bike(2 weeks ago). Both seemed to work. But since my bike has had the fidgets lately and I was running out of things to check I decided to set the float level on the bench because I never tried it that way. I checked the float level on the bench before I changed anything to see if it would read different than when I set it with the carb on the bike. WOW! 1/4 inch high. So I re-set the level, put the carb back on the bike, and took her out for a shake down ride. She's happy again.

Doc has always recommended doing it on the bench. Now I see why. I should have listened to him a long time ago. So if you need to check your float do it on the bench. Doc is right.

How do you get around the throttle positioning body?? Always been told to not mess with it.

Thanks

Hey Doc

Got a question. Or maybe it will turn out to be an admission that I screwed something up. Anywho I set my float using gas. I got curious yesterday so I took my carb off again and checked it using water just to see if ther was as much difference as you got. It read the same as the gas. No difference. Is there another explaination besides I did something wrong. Again.

By the way. If you set your float using water be sure to drain the bowl before you put the carb back on the bike and try starting it.

WOW, a quarter inch would not be acceptable..there is some tolerance in a float setting, but in a shallow bowl such as the mic's have, I would think it is way too much...It's basicly a reservoir, but surface presures do play a part, if it fills too much, the jets are forced,,,,not enough and the're starved... my experience was dialing in side drafts on a 240z so that is where I'm at...
