Fairing Question 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
|
|
Would like to put a fairing on my bike next year. I did some research on the web for R* fairing. Here's what I found:
- Hoppe Quadzilla with Stereo ($1425) (Fiberglass)
- Wide Open Customs ($699 no stereo/$799 stereo) (ABS)
- Rifle Fariing ($599 no stereo possible, leather wrapped ABS with studs, needs no paint)
- Bagger Style ($1699 Primered Fiberglass)
- Tsukayu ($799 no stereo (+$80 stereo ready)/$1150 stereo (installed)) (fiberglass)
Like to hear experiences you have with any of these (or others).
Thanks!!!

I have the Wide Open Customs. The quality of the fairing, the fit and the super easy installation made it a winner with me. The price is great also. They have some work to do on the quality of the windshield. They scratch easy. but the Fairing itself is top notch. No reason to pay more for the fairing, its as nice or nicer than any I have seem in the aftermarket. BTW it was painted and back to me in 2 days, cost of 60 bucks.

Javawave... what do you think of the stereo they provide? The windshield; can you get a different windshield?

Hey slyguy
I also have the WOC fairing. I think the stereo and speakers work OK. The speakers are probably the weak link, but there not bad. Just hard to hear without distortion above 60-65 mph. Most upgrade speakers eventually.
As far as windshields, I ordered both the 10" clear, and the 5" black sport with mine. Run the taller one in colder weather, and on longer trips. Short black one just looks cool!
You can put any HD windshield on with a little trimming. I recently put a Clearview Recurve on mine. I went with the 12" dark grey. Really cuts down on wind doing long Interstate trips. I'll try to post a pix below, but it's not a very sharp pix. You can also put on a HD windshield bag if you'll take the plastic mounting off the bag and replace with sheet metal, and then recover it with the faux imitation leather. Next thing I'm going to add to mine are the HD air wings. Where theres a will, theres a way.

Sorry slyguy, but pix wouldn't post. It's only 42k, but must be over the 499 limit. I'll try later.

Actually the stereo is the week link, I put in a reagular auto JVC stereo with the ipod jack and it sounds sooooo much better!!!! and it weighs about half as much as the marine stereo, and looks better.

I'll try again to post pix of bike with Clearview 12" windshield. Kinda of a distant shot, but it's all I have right now. Doesn't take much whittling to get it to fit.

lol.. so many opinions..lol. I like the stereo. I can run my ipod of the adapter cord in the rear and hide the ipod. It lets you control it with the stereo control, even shows your playlist on the display. The speakers are ok. They are water proof marine speakers, which is nice, but the sound is not like a quality car stereo. For the price I think its excellent. I am putting a HD ultra trunk on with speaker pods right now, and the stereo has a built in preamp of 40 watts per channel which will save me from adding one. I know Billjr loves the stereo he put in his, but its not water proof. I dont know if that will make a difference or not. I also ordered both the 5" smoked sport shield and 10" clear. I run the sport shield around town, but not on longer trips. Too many bugs in the forehead with it. Oh, and the CD player.... good while cleaning your bike. Not worth a hoot when riding. These Roadies vibrate too much. It makes the CD's skip. I hear that is the case with all stereos on these things. Good luck on your choice and let me know if I can help. Scott
