Fuel Petcock Incident 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago

Last night I decided to change my spark plugs to NGK Iridiums. When I got ready to remove the tank I removed the fuel line from the petcock the fuel nipple came out of the petcock and NOT the fuel hose (yes I loosened the clamp). Seems that the fuel line nipple is just pressed into the petcock. Anybody eles here have this happen. I fixed it by using air to blow out the fitting area in the closed petcock, putting a dab of super glue (slow setting)on the fitting and gently tapping it back in with a plastic mallet. I leak tested it later and so far no leaks. My fear was that it might vibrate out while riding, therefore the glue. Comments always welcome.
Also I will report on the Iridium plugs later. The stock plugs had only 1000 miles on them and they looked surprisingly good. Perfect on the front and slightly rich at the rear. I am hoping for a slight increase in MPG.

just make sure your super glue doesn't dissolve in gasoline.. they make adhesives specific for that type of application. ~Guido

Happened to me too. I just pushed it in, and gave a light tap with a hammer, hasn't leaked or came out, bout a yr. Even taken the hose off at least a dozen times since, no issues.
From what I have read, those plugs are a waste of good money, most use the autolites.

Actually these plugs so far are great! Seems to have a little more go in 5th when I roll on the throttle at 60 or 70 mph.

When I removed the gas tank last night to removed the AIS I had the very same thing happen to me. In fact, almost every rubber hose on the bike that I had to move around was stuck to the nipple it was slid over....seemed to have dry-rotted onto whatever it was on.
At the time I didn't think anything about it, I just stuck it back into the valve when I was finishing up. It seems to have held good so far. But, now I'm gonna be worring about it ...THANKS!

That is why I put a very small dab of thick super glue on it when I tapped it back in. I am NOT recommending this as a repair, it is just what I did to be comfortable with the repair.

When putting hoses back on use a thin layer of vasolene or silicon grease on the inside of the hose. That will prevent sticking in the future. tip of the day
