I have to take off the front cylinder to take it to the shop. How do i tell if the engine is at TDC? If it is not what is the easiest way to get it to TDC.

pull a spark plug in each cylinder and put a soda straw in the hole of one of them,Then put the bike in gear and roll it, or on a jack, turn the rear wheel, when the piston goes down, the straw will go down, when the piston comes up, the staw will also...when the straw reaches it's highest point, you will be at TDC...

Careful. With this method you may end up 180 deg out. Best way is to pull the #1 plug and then spin the engine slowly.. when the pressure builds against your finger and blows it off, you know you're close. You can then use the straw method.

You want to make sure you're at the top of the compression stroke, not the top of the exhaust stroke.
