Poor Mileage 3 Months, 1 Week ago
I just gt back from a great ride to Sturgis. The bike ran great but I was disapointed with my mileage. Coming back to Minnesota at 70-75 mph the best I could do was 29 mpg. I have an 05 with Hard Krome pipes. My dealer said it is normal to get in the mid 30's foe mileage but I will only get that on rare occasions. I am not much of a mechanic and if I touch it I will probably break it. Any suggestions for advice for my dealer? I love the bike but I am not too thrilled with my mileage compared to my brothers HD or nephews Honda Shadow. If I can get the mileage into the mid 40's I think I will quit thinking about trading it off.
Thanks

It could be alot of things, but have you had any jetting done? Are the jets still stock. I took a 450 mile round trip ride with the wife this week end and got 48 mpg riding two up. Mid 30's would actually be fairly low.

You bought the bike new and all you did was put pipes on?

Gotta come back with all the mods and settings to get after that one.

I altered the stock air box and put in a K&N. Put some Santee tapered tip pipes and mufflers on, rejetted with a K&N kit exactly according to the directions, and with no other tuning tweaks to try to make it any better, I got 46 my last ride, and I can actually blip the throttle, and get a nice little roar between downshifts almost every time.

I'm in love!

I bought the bike used with the pipes on it already. The dealer said they rejetted it.

I thought 35 to 37 mpg was good at 80 to 85 mph. Just finished a 620 mile trip. I have a K & N filter and straight pipes. If I slow down to 70 to 75 I will get 42 to 45 mpg. Slower is better.

You mean proper tire pressure, like Obama-lama-ding-dongs energy policy dictates, hold no water! What a shocker!
