If it's the original battery it may have just died.

not sure. I am going to have it tested tomorrow. It just seems weird that one second it is working and the next nothing. If it does need a new battery do you have any suggestions on what I should purchase. The bike has been customized and has a high compression piston.

They have been known to do that. A good 12v 18AH like a YTX20L-BS Yuasa, or a brand of your chooseing. I'm sure you will get many responces as to brand.

musky & greysnake...Thanks for all your help. It is frustrating when you get a new used bike and it just goes dead. I hope it is just the battery. If not hopefully you can further help me resolve the problem. Once again thanks.

I check my trickle charger this morning and it was blinking green. Turned the key on and still nothing. What I mean by nothing is it appears that none of the electrical systems are being supplied with power. i.e. the headlight, taillight and meter lighting do not come on and I can not start the bike.

My wife has a 2000 Yamaha V-STAR. To verify that it is not the battery causing my problem could I try her battery in my bike or are they not compatible?

Might be the battery. If you use the kill switch to turn the bike off that's where I would start checking. Get a meter and start tracing.

Am I understanding you correctly ....

... you turn the key to the on position and the dash dials do not sweep and none of the lights turn off.

If you turn the key to the on position and press the brake levers, does the brake light come on?

yes you are understanding me correctly.

When I turn the key to the on position the dash dials do not sweep and none of the lights turn on.

I did not try pressing the brake to see if the brake light comes on. I will check that when I get home from work.

Any thoughts....

Thanks for the inquiry.
