Longshots trying to install right now need help 3 Months ago
I got the star long drag pipes for my bike im pretty sure there made by VH and there the longshots I suppose..
I got my stock pipes off and im at the part where you put the NEW muffler mount on the frame.. It goes on the back of the frame and two NEW bolts go through with nuts on the back.. Well ive done everything been sitting in my garage in 110* heat doing this and the nuts only go on the bolt like 1/4 inch.. It wont tighten the bracket tight to the frame?? Is there suppose to be some play or did they send me the wrong size nuts? On top of this bracket is the bolt for the rear brake line.. Hopefully someone here can fill me in.. Ive clean the threads with carb cleaner put wd 40 on them and the nut only goes like a 1/4 if that on the supplied bolts..
Anyone have any idea whats up?

Are you saying you are running out of threads? Is that aa tight as they get with a wrench or with your fingers? If it's with your fingers are you sure they aren't Nylock nuts that have plastic on the inside?

Musky,
No there is no nylon.. The bolt threads are about an inch long I can thread about a 1/4 inch before it stops.. Ive tried to wrench it hard but it will snap if I go more I think, the bolt is getting real hot when im trying to tighten it.. Its gotta be the wrong size because it says to torgue it ..

Might be less of a headache to just go get new bolts.

Take the bolts and nuts off and try to screw the nut on the bolt in your hand. Sounds like they are cross-threaded/.

Doc ya I did that.. What it is they sent me metric nuts for a standard bolt
I went and got new bolts and been fighting it trying to get the pipes on the head its not easy by yourself.. Is the little heatsheild that is on the header to cylinder part a must to put back on? I finally got the pipes to the cyl on and was trying to line the rear bolts up and turned around and saw that heat sheild lol unreal.. Im done for the night what the paper work says takes .7 hours has taken me 4 hours and still not done..Maybe the 08 is different I dunno but man ive been just fighting this thing to line up everywhere

Are you talkin about the Yamaha Speedstar exhaust???

There was a fitment issue with these pipes on years other than 08...

Speedstar Exhaust

Now I had quite the time with my Megacone Speedstar

OK the head pipes when on made the support bracket not align with the mounting holes in the muffler so I had to gremil grind the holes a little longer..they were oblong to begin I just made them more oblong towards the rear...

then everthing went together..yes I ...had a few Four letter words for YAMMI

BTW did they come with FI Oxygen ports????

Thanks pop,
Yes they came with 02 sensors ports.. The top one came with a extender for the o2 sensor because the pipes sit lower.. I just got up, gonn ahave my coffee and tackle this sob this morning before it gets 110 again in my garage.. hehe Its just the way the brackets are its hard getting the bolts to start threading its just ass backwards imo but to some of you maybe its the way it is.. My first time
Ill get some pictures up this afternoon and a sound clip.
Hoss
Oh and another thing.. These Yami spedstar pipes are Vance and Hines it said it on the box in small writing and the pipes serial # starts with "VH"..

that is very curious...

I am almost sure the megacone and the older speedstars were made by a company in Japan...the same one that makes the stock mufflers for Yammi..

Now that could explain the screw up on the nuts

After market pipes do use the bolt and nut attachment to the frame which are standard threads 3/8-16 nc but the yammi bracket

on my megacone screwed into a M10x1.25 nut welded to the bracket...

Now maybe we have fitment issues as well if VH are makin the exhaust.now..
