I would agree with Doc's last comment. No choke on a cold start-up is probably indicative of a problem.

I'll have to boast a bit I guess... from cold, mine will start right up with full choke immediately. I push it in to the first detent, and it's off we go with no issues whatsoever. After about the first half mile, I push it the rest of the way in, and we are good to go! Whoohoo!!!

I just thought they were all like that! The only thing I can figure, (with a modified box and a K&N, and Santee tapered tip mufflers), is that the carb set-up came out right the very first time! And after reading of the carb issues others have had, am I ever happy!

I just eliminated the fuel pump this week, and runs just as sweet.

I agree, mine always uses a little choke on cold start. 45 seconds choke off and ride. A little tempermental, BUT not as bad as my first bike a T120R Bonneville 1968 model. Motorcycles are not supposed to be push button are they Doc???????????????????

Well Doc, I trimmed my choke knob, so I know it's not that. So, I guess I'll kick my main down to a DJ170 and start WOT testing again. She runs good right now, but of course, these girls tolerate running rich.

It'll probably help my milage too. Right now I'm getting about 33 mpg with in town daily riding. I get on it a little (love that sound ), but not really that much. I've been avoiding it, 'cause it's summer and I just want to ride, Sally, ride.

It's almost fall. The best time to ride here, so, it'd be nice to not deal with the choke and wheeze every time I fire her up. I've been meaning to port my manifold anyway and I need to do my valve inspection/adjustment too. So, it looks like a long day or two in the garage playing with her. (Darn, hon. I really did want to work in the back yard today. ).

Ratl.

Quest - what you've described has been the way my ride would start since I bought the bike. Choke, start, push in a tick and take off. ACtually, the choke goes in the rest of the way by itself after a few minutes. I didn't get to ride today, but I did go and fire her up while on the jack, and she does sound back to normal.
