So, I'm confused, weren't you turning the key to "Open" before?

YES! I honestly have no clue why it worked. I tried turning it on, then to open. Then to lock, then to open. Then to on, pushing in, and turning to open. I tried every danged combination possible... All I can chalk it up to is engine gremlins.

So I suppose the question now is... can you open it now?

The trick is to not push down on the key. You'll feel some resistance when you turn the key to the left from "Off" to "Open", that's engaging the latch, turn it anyway, it will (should) pop the seat. You push the key to lock the steering; of course that only works when the handle bars are turned to the left all the way.

Glad you got it and you didn't have to call a hazmat crew for the oil spill and glad you had a nice experience at the dealer.

Grazie, Sly. I just got home so the bike is hot and I'm hot, so I'm relaxing for a bit. I will go back down and see if I can perform that same magic trick that Brad did. (And if I can't, I'm going to be soooo )

Me too Frank, glad you made it home safe and didn't wind up frying the motor, I know, technically its an engine.

But anyway, I have laughed so hard through this tread, it was good for my soul.... Thank you...

try turning the key then while the key is in the open position, push down hard on the front of the seat(above the latch) and then pull up fast.i very rarely get that release sound anymore.might be a streched cable or something . but the way i just told you works for me. after your under your seat hit that cable with some wd-40 folloed by some anti-seize, that should free it up.

I went through all of it and made sure all of the fasteners were tight. Now, with just a bit of pressure on the front of the seat, it comes off every time. I went through it about six times, just to be sure. I also tightened up the battery post bolts, cleaned up as much of the oil as I could reach, polished up all the chrome, went over various scratches with touch-up paint, and waxed all the chrome and paint, and went over the saddle and bags with leather protectant. She looks brand new again!
