Like you said, and it can't be stressed enough, good riding gear + awareness = good chances of survival on the road. I'd like to see a day where just once a year a person gets to "reciprocate" on another driver without any fear of legal retalliation. Obviously certain rules would apply but to be able to yell at, debase, belittle or generally something psychological done to an offending driver and all they have to do is take the public humiliation or have a sign attached to their vehicle for a time period stating their transgression for all so see.
