An option You might want to explore is the Local News Station, our local station has a program called(On Your Side)were if consumers have a problem they can write in and the News Station will go out with Camera's Rolling and Find out wat the Problem is. Business's don't usually like bad Publicity.

Glad to hear everything worked out eventually...I've been meaning to post my one validating thought, but didn't get around to it before you got ur bike back....the dealer had no reason to call you a cheapskate by bringing your own oil...the tranny recall document calls for a replacement of the oil (dino of course), and is remitted to yammy when the dealer does the work; you wouldn't have paid for the oil either way...if he would have charged you for the oil, he would have been double dipping (charging you, then charging yammy for the same part), and that would be on the same level as his accusations against you...ironic huh?

Actually Gareva1, apart from actually thinking (before I knew better about the rings) that the syn oil was better, what prompted me to bring in the oil in the first place was that the Service Manager confirmed to me specifically that he was "collecting th oil" he drained in "clean containers" and refilling the motor with it, as Yami provided a replacement filter for the recall but not the oil. I figured I might as well provide the oil.

In any case, lesson learned.

And to think we were actually looking around the dealer's showroom, considering getting a new bike for my wife when she picked me up from the dealer when I dropped the Roadie off...

Go hang out in the sales floor. Tell every potential customer how you were dealt with. Cost 'em money. If they tell you to leave, tell 'em you're waiting for your bike to be done so you can leave on it.

Oh, and in the end, I think they used my oil. How do I know?

I gave them 4 quarts to put in and there's a note on the bill stating It's missing half a quart

Listen, you got the old bike back, its not in pieces, your leg isn't broke..
So now start looking in the Tech forums so you know what to do with it from now on. That was a big job and not for the light heart'd, I know I wouldn't have wanted to tackle that in my little garage.
Now you can get a good set of metric tools and let us all talk you into tearing that thing apart.

Sounds like a plan!

One question for all of you who remember getting the recall taken care of: is it normal that the shifting has that "brand new unbroken church-shoe" feel to it?

I can't say that I felt a big difference. I was just so glad to get it back after 4 WEEKS, that I probably didn't notice.

They do go through the trany and put in a lot of new, so it wouldn't be out of the question to feel a firmer new like shift.

Either I'm misreading the bulletin, or your dealer cut a corner here...the bulletin (located at http://www.paulmilner.com/yamaha/handbuch/recall.pdf) says:

Submit a Recall Request for the transmission replacement as described below using Recall Number
990021. Choose the status “M.” You will be reimbursed a labor allowance of 9.0 hours, which includes
a reimbursement amount for oil
and other shop supplies, plus the cost of the 4th Pinion Gear
Exchange Kit and your handling fee.

Am I reading this wrong?

Sounds like the dealer wanted to cut all the corners, from start to finish.
