Holy crap, Franks right. I counted 14 star emblems on my bike but I think I missed a half dozen others!

Oh, and Frank, the ign. side isn't tough to replace at all. Removed the shifter is all I did. Didn't have to mess with the floorboard. Two screws hold it on from the inside.

There are Yamaha badges on every conceivable surface of my bike. The tank, the rear fender, the side covers, stamped into the floorboards, stamped into the crankcase, stamped into the ignition cover, a badge on the back of the sissy bar, a badge on the chrome below the speedometer, a star logo stitched into the seat, a star logo on the windshield frame... Damn... It's TOO MUCH!!

If someone asks what kind of bike I've got, I'll proudly tell them that it's a Yamaha. I'm sick of the stuff plastered all over my bike, though. If Yamaha wants THAT much advertising, maybe they can also pay me a salary. Otherwise, to hell with 'em.

I'm with you mate.....Maybe we should stockpile this stuff and send it all back to Yamaha.

They would just send it to the production plant and recycle it on the 09's and start using Super glue instead of tape ...Coug

When I got my R* all the badges were alreay off I really like the look better with them gone. Not only does it improve the gas milage, but it makes it go faster. Plus it being red makes ie faster to start with.

Someone I knew removed his and he convinced me. ONLY the tank. And i do really like it. It looks so much cleaner, I always thought the emblem on the 1100 looked SO much better. I'm not too crazy about the type "Star" Emblem they picked. A lot of times I wear Star apparel though. Just so I am not accused of riding that other bike. With he emblem off the tank ... just as many people cant figure out what it is, Despite the Yamaha embossed into the engine plainly.

Just got through removing the tank emblems. I also popped the crankcase cover and removed the stamped Yamaha badge and replaced it with a plain chrome one. On the exhaust side of the bike, you can't tell WHAT it is. All of the badges are GONE.

To do the one on the shifter side, I'm wondering if the shifter has to be removed...

Also, if anyone is removing the tank badges, don't use any heat to melt the adhesive. I tried floss, sewing thread, and everything else to try and "saw" through, and it all kept breaking, so finally, I carefully got my fingernails under the rear "wing" and lifted gently. As I did, the badge slowly, slowly lifted, taking most of the adhesive with it. What was left, because it wasn't melted, I was able to roll up with my thumb, like putty, and then just peel it off. It was a much neater, easier job.

This might be a dumb question but do you have to change the crankcase cover while doing an oil change??? I guess what I'm asking does oil leak out??? Thanks!!!

No oil on the ignition side as the whole thing is pretty much just a cover.

You might get a few drips out of the cam side but not enough to worry about.

There was a little oil... Not even an ounce. Just enough to make it annoying, but not really messy. There's a rubber gasket around the inside of the cover. I don't think the crankcase cover has to be removed for oil changes. (God, I hope not...) I had to loosen and nearly remove the heat-shields on my exhaust to get to the bottom-most bolt. It was more of a PITA than it should have been. And no, no oil leaks.
