The voice of the Georgia Bulldogs announced his retirement today. He has been calling the play-by-play for almost as many years as I've been alive. 42 years of calling the games and at age 86 he's certainly earned some rest. He will be missed by folks like me who would watch the game on TV with the sound off while listening to him on the radio.

The end of an era.

Here's a you tube sample for all you folks who aren't lucky enough to have heard him. (hope this works)

amazing how we grow to connect people, especially voices to our teams. I remember when Jack Brickhouse left the cubs, Its changed my view of the team. He was part of what I saw and heard every afternoon as a kid in the summer. I understand your feelings on this one.

When I moved up here to "The Burgh" everyone would turn the sound off to the TV and Listen to Myron Cope on the radio. I thought for one thing, the guy couldn't talk, didn't know anything about football and was slightly retarded.

Now 18 years later, I miss him...
