The WOT test (wide open throttle) 3 Years, 4 Months ago
This thread discusses the Content article: The WOT test (wide open throttle)

While attempting to perform the above test I found the bike pulls well into the middle to upper middle range and then seems to bog down, stutter and refuses to accelerate any further. Is this a condition of an overly rich situation or?Any help advice much appreciated

Souds like your hitting the rev limiter. I believe that stock setting is 4200 rpm.

I've hit the rev limiter before and it is much more sudden, aggressive in nature. This seems to be much more subdued wanting to go but being held back.

Hmmmm, that's what mine does when it hots the rev limiter which I believe is at 4250 rpm on the 1600s and 4750 on the 1700s. (won't swear to those numbers, though)

Is it possible that you are starving the carb? float not set correctly, dirty fuel filter, etc.

size engine and jetting info would help...
if you checked the other possible problems like stanag said, float fuel issues and so on..
the problem you described would be getting too much fuel, go down a jet or so
if it had run up to full throttle and when you back off accels lean, up a jet

1700 engines varied opinions - dyno around the 185 as low as 180lean and high 195rich , mik 170... stock pilot unless modified beyond stock engine(hi comp pistons or big bore kit).
rev limiter on 1700 4750ish - 1st gear 40mph, 2nd 60, 3rd 85, 4th 108 approx mph you would hit the limiter
1600 engines not my fortay many articles for jetting around the forum..
