Fuel Gauge decided to stop working 3 Years, 8 Months ago
Riding yesterday and I glance down to check speed and notice 2/3 of a tank on the fuel gauge. Look again a few minutes later and now it's reading 1/2 and visibly falling. Within a few minutes it had fallen to empty with the fuel warning light flashing but there's still 2/3 of a tank of fuel.... Has anyone struck this fault and if you have a remedy I'd appreciate hearing it.
Unless it's a quick fix I'm inclined to ignore it; I rode 35 years without a fuel guage - I should survive.

Hi there Reperio...I don't have any clues mate but I'm sure someone will steer you right. I'll be looking over your shoulder to see what responses come in on this one. BTW have you lifted the panel to see if any obvious wiring problems, loose connectors, etc.

Regards from Emu@Oz

Hey, a local - g'day from Sydney Emu

I poked in all the obvious places (wiring, connectors etc.) but no joy.

Like I said, I'll just do what I did for 30 odd years; open the bloody fuel cap and look

Roadstar fuel gauges are prone to failure. Usually they start going a little at a time, then one day it just quits working for good. I would have to wait 30 - 50 miles before it would come to full after a fill up. Then it quit completely. Some guys tryed unhooking the battery overnight....dont know if it helped anyone though. I ended up buying a new fuel sensor and it lasted about 6 months. That was a couple years ago, maybe they've found the flaw and thier ok now. I havent had a gauge since then.

If your sender has gone bad you should see eight flashes from the engine indicator light when you first turn the key to start your bike....Coug

Cougar-
Thanks for the heads up. Here's one rider that never knew that. 8 flashes, huh? I don't remember reading that in my Yamaha owners manual when I first got her home. Is it in there at all? If so I musta missed it completely.

Ride Safe......
