Continental Tires - Anyone have experience? 3 Years, 7 Months ago
|
|
With just 2mm of tread left on the stock tires AND them being almost 5 years old I figure it's time to put on some new rubber. Anyone have experience with tires from Continental? I know the tire of choice on here are the ME880's, but I just gotta be different sometimes.
Thanks all,
M7

My OEMs were Dunlop 404 and I replaced them with Continentals. The fourth rear was installed at 36,600 miles; so that is an average of 12,200 each for the three. Mileage is now 44,476, so that is 7,876 on this tire and it looks great. The original front was replaced at about 8,000 because of a blowout(somewhat exciting at 65)the second tire (cont) went over 30,000. So I am quite happy with continentals!

Mark, a bike that dark needs some contrast. I love my ww's but I admit you'll need to clean them every week no matter what. (of course I'm obsessive that way too)

You have had a tire for 5 years????
God god man... I go through a back tire every year, some times two. Maybe I need to look at those things... lol

Well, I've only had the bike for a little over a year, but tires were made 24th week of '03 and it's almost '09, so that's 5+ years.....When I got the bike it only had 1200 miles on it. Now it's got about 9000. I guess I'm hard on tires because the tread is looking a bit thin and I'm not one to ride it till the belts show. I like for there to be someplace for the water to go when the rain comes...if it ever does.

Ok, that's a good explanation, kind of like what I was faced with when I bought my 01 RS, it was 7 years old and brand new.
Weird how that works, but I follow you now....

I don't have experience with Conti motorcycle tires I do however have extensive experience with their auto and *cough* bicycle tires. I was a sponsored bicycle racer and instead of using the tires supplied (or that I won) I liked Contis so much I would pay for Contis out of pocket. I still have the stock tires that came with both motorcycles I have, when it's time to change I won't think twice about Contis.

I went ahead with the Metzelers this time around. Seemed like the safe choice considering all the praise they get on this forum.
I am impressed by the difference in handling. Much different from the stockers, so I'm happy with the decision to run them. I may try the Continentals next time. We'll see how this set goes and revisit this all when I've run all the tread off.
