DIY Forward Controls 3 Years, 7 Months ago
Hi.

First of all thanks for all the great info on this site guys!!! It's awesome!!

Secondly has anyone tried to make their own forward controls for the R*?

I've been kicking around the idea but haven't had any luck finding drawings.

Billjr made up some adapters to move the floorboards forward. I haven't used them personally but, quite a few here have and are very happy. FYI Billjr Floorboard extentions

I haven't seen anyone make their own yet. Most mods of this type for roadstars involved modifying HD forwards to work on a Road Star.

If you have some idea's we would lovet to see what your thinking you might be able to do.

It would be pretty involved as there would be a lot of machining and fitting of some close tolerances..I would say if you have the experience and tools, then go for it..but I think you will find that it would be better to get a set and mod them to fit your bike as the HD controls are much cheaper than ones made for the R*...

I have access to the machines and drawing programs so I could probably draw something up and machine them I've just never seen a set close up to see how they're put together.

Which HD controls work best on our R*?

I've already got a set of billjr's floorboard extenders(I still have to install them... those bolts holding the floorboards on are really really tight)

Silvasilv do you have any documentation or pics of making your floorboards into footpegs?

your gonna need some heat to loosen up the loctite on the bolts...i know ripbiker used demon cycles forwards because they were cheaper but he hasnt been on here very much lately to ask about them....

there is the link to the thread i made a while ago, if that link doesnt work just search for footpegs in the forum...i have bigger pictures if you want too, it was a very simple design just angle iron few bolts and bought used kuryakyn footpegs on ebay, total was about 100 bones or so and a few hours

send me a message if you wanna talk about them, there is a lot of room for improvement on my design

I bought a set of Legends HD FC's.

I removed the hardware from the backing plate, mocked up a custom backing plate to fit me, machined aluminum backing plates, chrome them and assembled everything together.

Check out my website for pics.
