The slide hammer concept is the way to go. It's easy enough to make your own.
I keep a length of threaded bar on hand for these jobs.....bend and grind a hook at one end....slide hook in and grip the baffle...drill a hole in block of timber a bit larger than the bar diameter...pass wood over the bar...fit nut and large washers onto outside end of bar....using block of timber as the slide hammer tap at back of nut....works a treat

EMU, I like that homemade slide hammer idea. It may work but there is very little lip to hook on these.
Curt, just got to thinking about your rod and vicegrips. I've never had a bike with baffles. Always modded mufflers or open pipes. I'm starting to think these are installed backwards. The lips on the baffling are not facing to the front of the bike where I can hook them. They are facing the rear. Shouldn't it be reversed so that the exhaust gases get caught instead of skipping over them?

BigBoyinMS -- I had thought the same thing about the baffles. (I too have Big Willy's) Sounds like yours are the same way mine are. There is not a good way to hook them.

I notice your tips aren't on. Did you remove them because of the peeling chrome? It seems that's common to the Bub's.

I bought my bike BRAND NEW off the show room floor with the pipes on it exactly like this. They had it on the floor with a sign calling it "Thunder Edition" Road Star. It was a marketing gimick (I think). Anyway, I liked the look of the pipes, loved the sound. I didn't know they made tips for it until several months after I bought it.

They do sound good, don't they? I'm just wanting to tone it down a bit. After running the interstate for a while at speed it starts irritating me. Mine have the 2" baffles from Bub. They make 1 1/2" but it looks like they have discontinued the Big Willys and parts for them other than stock on hand.

I do love the sound. And, they are loud when you are on the throttle.
Have you ever tried ear plugs? If you only sometimes want to tone it down, might be a quick easy way to do so (for your ears anyway).

I guess age is catching up with me. I always liked less noise but it didn't matter one way or the other. I just like it quieter these days.
I'm hoping I can get close to the sound of the old shovelhead H-D's with stock mufflers. (Not likely) Deep, low tone... loved that sound.
