I checked my speedo with a GPS and both odo & speedo were off. Some folks say it's only the speedo but in my case it's both you need to check it out to be certain.

Do you think this could be a warranty thing? If it's off on purpose, shouldn't there be a disclaimer of some sort on the speedo?

I have the extended warranty and I don't mind using it if I have too.

Like the rest of you, resale is determind sometimes by the total mileage and this could really effect that bottom line.

Also my Warranty is based on total miles as well as years, they effetively shortened the warranty.

That's on an 01? What size was Stock and what did size did you go to?

I love my ride, but now I have to question all those blogs I read about how many miles people were getting on there bikes with certain brands of tires, maybe they weren't as good as they thought?

Oye... I might have started a class action suite... any lawyers out there? LOL

Re:GPS Speed vs Speedometer? 3 Years, 7 Months ago
Mine is off by 5 MPH @65 I am doing 60. Never thought to check OD. Mention to dealer he said they are all off, I mention make warranty run out faster? I bought the YES. So I am not going to sweat it. It keeps me under the limit so to speak. (I just move a tad slower than everyone else and I figure I am ok. Ha ha
But I did read say about 8 months ago Toyota and Honda auto co had to extend warranty of Autos due to their OD's reading fast.

Re:GPS Speed vs Speedometer? 3 Years, 7 Months ago
Now really, isn't the purpose of the Speedo and ODO to be able to "Accurately" gauge your speed and distance? It makes no sense what so ever to purposely make it "inaccurate". I hope the air pressure gauges are right.

Can I tell the nice officer with the bright flashing lights that Yamaha purposely made my speedo off so I was trying to go by the ODO instead and I judged it in the wrong direction or my "Math" was off? I did the Jethro Bodine method of "Goes inta" Maybe Yamaha adjusted his Radar gun and we are all even?

Should the dealers tell you that they are "Off"? If I sell the bike, can I tell people that it's not the "Actual" mileage?
Maybe I'm just over thinking this, or maybe this is a question that should have been asked a long time ago?

Most motorcycle speedo's are off, I can't tell you why but they are. Just one of them things.

Re:GPS Speed vs Speedometer? 3 Years, 7 Months ago
So, who CAN tell me/us why it's off? A guage is an instrument made to accurately measue something specificaly, or to provide accurate feedback. I know my scale is off too, but that's OK, when the officer pulls me over for doing 75, I'll be so glad he didn't see my speedo that read 85, just a money saver I guess.

I will go out this evening and measure the ODO as well using the GPS and mile markers, but it seams that a lot of the readers here said that BOTH the speedo and ODO are off. If they are both off, I will purchase the speedo healer as I prefer to KNOW how fast and how far I have acually traveld in a given period of time. I hate guessing.

i have never checked mine with a gps, but i have had many discrepancies with other riders in the past. seems mine is 5mph slower than what speedo says. i have ridden beside my wife in her car at speedo 60 and she said she was going little over 55. never really cared much i dont guess
