To start with, I don't do burnouts, I do like to punch the throttle every now and then but mostly just cruize and commute with my Roadstar.... I had my stock Bridgstone replaced this past May at 7,200 miles. Today I now have 13,700 miles on a Dunlap 404 and I may get another 1,000 out of this tire, hopefully....I hear people talking about the Metzlers but wondering what kind of milage others are getting on their tires and what brand and model tires they have...btw, I do ride a passenger over half the time I ride. My wheight is 190 and my daughter is around 150, so I sure that had alot to do with the tire wear....Your thoughts on what I should check into would be apprieciated!

I've got about 9000 miles on the original Bridgestones. While there is some tread left, the tires were made mid '03, so they're getting a bit long in the tooth as well as short in the tread.

I'm having ME880's put on front and rear Saturday. I'm hoping to feel the difference I've heard others on here rave about. I'd like to get some significant mileage from them too (like 15K). Time will tell.

Cyclegear is having a sale this Saturday and I'll get both tires for $203.00+tax. Then I'll have to drop another $100 to get them mounted at the local Yamaha shop.

I tried to get a local motorcycle tire shop here to at least get close to the roughly $325 price out the door, but they said they couldn't do it for less than the $380 they quoted. At least I tried to do business with the little guys!

Hey Mark! Just remember the Metzlers carry more air than other tires! I have em, and they are great! Bike rolls easier than stock for sure! Have fun!!!

PS 15k may be pushing it. They are pretty soft, and if you ride somewhat aggressively the faster the wear! Just remember to keep the pressure up!

I've heard they were softer, I had never heard they run at higher air pressure. I guess I learn something everyday.

I just bought a set of ME880 MARATHONS, I still had the orignal Bridgestone front on mine. It had 14345 miles on it. I can already tell the difference in the way it handles, sooo much better now. I ordered mine from ronayers.com they were $233 shipped to my door. I just put them on over the weekend. The cheapest place I found around here was a little over $300 mounted.

Yep... bump up the pressure to 42psi front / 45psi rear. They'll wear better and won't cup. I've been running mine there since i put `em on. The rear tire needs to be replaced soon, but still looks pretty fair. Some tread left, but not much. I have better than 12,000 miles on them so far.....

I'll buy another set..... no problem.

you can usually get 2 fronts for every rear. The rear will wear sooner. I've been running ME880s as well. I can get 11K out of a rear, not much more than that. I may switch to Avon Venoms just to try them.

OK, I'm confused now because here's what Metzeler has to say on inflation pressures:

Many tyre damage result from incorrect inflation pressure. Furthermore, the inflation pressure has a big influence on the riding qualities of a motorcycle. The inflation pressure recommended by the motorcycle manufacturer can be found in the bike's manual and is usually written on a sticker on the rear swingarm or chainguard. Set the suggested inflation pressure on cold tyres before riding. During service the tyre's warming-up causes a pressure rise that must NOT be reduced.
Check inflation pressure once a week. Increase rear tyre pressure by 0,2 bar / 3 psi when riding with a passenger or with very heavy load. Insufficient inflation pressure causes tyre flexing and overheating that may lead to internal damage. Overinflation impairs riding comfort and stability and can result in uneven wear. (My emphasis)When checking the inflation pressure, don't forget to lock the valve cap. Use a valve cap with rubber sealing.

I usually keep the PSI indicated on the side of the tire actually IN the tire. The part that worries me about bumping up the pressure is in the bold portion of their recommendation. I'm not looking for an argument here. I just need accurate info. so I can keep the shiny side up and avoid an unpleasant encounter with asphalt.
