Dumb question about model 3 Years, 7 Months ago
My 2000 R* has a Silverado windshield. Is it a Silverado? How can I tell? I sometimes hate being the new guy...

Is there a bunch of chrome and saddle bags? Then it's a Silverado.

Welcome.

No dumb questions here coolalexrex.

Look at this pic, just below the passenger footpegs and just above the exhaust. Their is a big chrome circle that is my swingarm pivot cover. Just in front of that is an engine mount/brace bracket. Its flat, black, and joins the engine to the frame on the right side:

Right side engine brace

The regular Road Star only has one of these on the left side. The Silverado has one on each side.

Passenger on mine gets Goldwing pegs. That's how I got it, along with a HA sticker covered windsield and some after market stuff like BUB's and a lot of dirt. I was wondering if the VIN would make it easier. I will go out to the crotch and see if the engine braces hold the clue.

There is probably a VIN designation, but I wouldnt know what it is. I have read where some of the 08 have passing lamps and some not too. I wonder if they come that way or the dealer did a "swap" for someone?

So it IS a curious question? I will talk to the dealership and get some answers. It wouldn't hurt to know them better anyway. Doubt I'll ever buy a new bike from them though, I like my R* better than the flashy new ones. Nonetheless, I'll have to buy something eventually. Tuesday is auto(used to be CAR)maintence day so I'll be with the R* and my SS for the day, while I'm playing I'll check Gram's info.. Hope there's time for the HK soon, too, too busy! But then gas is cheaper than ammo these days. What a world.

Like JW said, there is a difference in the vins..I looked it up in my user manual, it looks like 3 different designations. I have an 03 and the vins in the book are as follows: xv16a, xv16as, and av16at..the only thing is ther're not clear on which is which...my speedo says midnite star and my vin has the av16at in it..
