Re:vibration at high speeds and rpm's 3 Years, 7 Months ago
I found this on another Yamaha forum. It states he simply adjusted the PMS and it took away all the vibration. I have a 2008 R* which is fuel injected, do I have a PMS to adjust or is this just on carberated models?

"If the vibration happens in a very narrow band of RPM it might be cured by making the mixture just slightly richer by adjusting the PMS.

I was getting a pronounced vibration at 40 in 3rd, 50 in 4th, and at 62 in 5th gear. It's now gone completely with my PMS adjusted.

It was described on another forum that the front cylinder seems to run leaner than the rear, and at certain low rpms they sort of fight with each other and created this vibe.

Worth a try. The adjustment also all but eliminated the knock I had!"

waso50 -

Haven't seen anyone mention engine mounts. Just generally go over all the nuts and bolts. My experience is like others that the bike is smoother as the speeds rise.

Good luck.

OK, now I'm really trippin' out. Not only did adjusting my PMS quiet the knocking down by about 50% or more, but the vibration that I was getting that caused me to start this thread is GONE This bike has a mind of its own, and I think I like the way it's thinking.

I found this post on the Re:Vibration thread from a recent entry. MidStar07 just went through the same thing.

For those who fixed this problem by adjusting the PMS, which way did you adjust it? Did you solve it by turning the screw in, or out?

Turning the PMS out richens it.

And the FI '08's do not have a PMS. It's automatically adjusted by the module.

caution when turning it out. Richer may mean a better ride in the short term, but too rich will bring on problems much bigger than vibration. jmo.
