OK heres the question. Are you willing to take a possible ticket for noise violations and be heard on the road when passing thru a drivers blind spots or while making your way thru a parking lot. You hear the proverbial "loud pipes save lives" quote all the time, hell, I even got it on the front page of my site. I am of the belief that along with "defensive" riding and other streetwise practices that a good set of pipes will definately save your bacon. Mine have on several occasions. At the very least they will alert people to your presence. But are you willing to battle that in court? I sure as hell am.

ill rack up tons of tickets doesnt matter to me...people can't always see me riding especially people who are only mediocre drivers in giant suv's
i know i can put on a really loud air horn but whenever i run into a troubling situation i pull the clutch and rev real loud and people cant help but notice me then, just more used to that than hitting my dinky horn switch..pretty effective

Thats a subject that is certainly going to be debated for a long time. I would say that the anti noise folks are winning that battle.. one town at a time. Sound decibel levels are coming into question more every day.

I don't rely on my pipes to keep me out of trouble. I use my eyes, brakes, and my horns. But if get a ticket for pipes I'll pay it.

In all my years (and Miles , and States) of riding , seems like the only folks who have run ins with the law are at Rallies where the locals are rolling in the fine money , or some dufus won't stop rapping on his pipes , making himself a spectacle. Otherwise , seems officers just want us to enjoy our day riding , and keep the loud sounds down , not off.

Besides , if you got a ticket while rapping the pipes to get some blind drivers attention , seems the officer would have seen that as well , understanding your frustration. BB

Here is a question. What if you run a louder style pipe in a state that it doesn't matter, but you travel through other states that it does matter? Cuase I think Im going with the Propipe over the winter!

I like the stock pipe sound. The only problem I have with loud pipes is in residential areas.

For instance, when I hear some idiot going to work and revving his bike with loud pipes at 7AM, & I can hear it inside my dwelling, I just have to ask myself how intelligent that person is. I guess they think people are somehow impressed with the bikes power as they are woken from their sleep?

But out on the road to each his own.

When we’re out cruising some new town in the middle of nowhere, and the sun’s going down , and people are walking theirs dogs, it's nice to idle on past them respectfully with stock reasonable pipes.

My 2 Cents.

My propipe was in probably 25 states (Shadow 1100 & Roadstar)......never an issue.

I don't barrel through residential areas , I respect others feelings in that regard. Shoot , I put-put into my neighborhood routinely. BB

Big Bear,

I'm the same way. Seems like a small few make us all look bad.

Hey, everytime I see your bike pic I'm wondering what it is. Is that a Stratoliner? I really like it!
