As an LEO in Orlando, which has more than our share of bikers, I can't imganine anyone I know writing a ticket for loud pipes unless the person was being stupid. I have loud pipes on my bike and a Stebel horn. I choose my horm first and driving defensively. I assume no one can see me and ride accordingly. Should I have to do that? Of course not. I choose too. Maybe it is because I have been through our motors school and listened to what I was taught, but regardless, I don't expect cagers to go out of there way to look for me. When I am driving my car I don't see anyone looking out for me so why would they do it just because I am on a bike?

Do I get pissed when I get cut off? Yes. Do I do anything other than shake my head? No. Ok.. maybe once when I called in some deputy friends to deal with an agressive driver. The guy got arrested for no valid DL. Imagine that!!!

My motto... Have fun, drive safe, be alert and carry a cell phone.

Ken

Following the logic that "loud pipes save lives" the ultimate solution would be that all vehicles on the road should have loud pipes. I doubt that such a situation would contribute to the saving of lives. All we would have is a very loud world.

The difference would be that all it really takes to lose your life is one wreck when you're riding a motorcycle. That doesn't necessarily translate into the cager world. Just about everyone on the road has had a fender bender or two in a car and they are all still with us today. You can't afford to have a "fender bender" when you're on two wheels.

i agree, one of my best friends is the police chief in my town, i have unplugged longshots on my bike and the only place i rev it up is behind the police station because the chief is a biker too and loves to hear it, but like big bear says, responsibility and respect goes along way in someone elses hood

It all comes down to respect for others. I live on a corner lot, there are days when I want to move because I get some bikes that sit at the corner reving up, waiting for traffic and then hammer away from the corner in first gear up to about 10,000 rpm. My windows rattle and shake, I can't hear the TV or if I'm on the phone I have to wait. That's not being respectfull!

I have stock pipes on my Silverado, and they do make a healthy rumble, so I know to NOT run the throttle late at night or in quite neighborhoods. I hope I never have to rely on them to save my life, if I do, then I screwed up!

Loud pipes have never saved anyone on my corner. But someone might get hurt yet.

Believe it or not bikes run into cars everyday. Just think, if I put straight pipes on my truck you will not only see me but hear me as well. I wear a full face helmet when it get really cold and it makes it much more difficult to see and hear other vehicles.

With people talking on cell phones and listening to loud music being heard is a matter of luck. The people that will readily hear and see you are seldom the problem.

Bought my Roadstar used... had straight Cobras... with an aftermarket breather. So damn loud my Harley riding Brother-in-law complained. I like a quiet Bike.... put stock pipes back on.... never regretted it. People ride by in the night with loud pipes..... shakes the earth, and wakes everyone up......

Well for all you "nay sayers" My pipes have "redirected" 2 cars in 2 days. One was a chick on a cell phone drifting into the lane in front of me. A quick crack of the throttle and she about soiled herself and the other was some dude pulling out from a sidestreet. I saw him but he didnt see me and started to dart across right in my path. Again a blast from the pipes stopped him dead in his tracks. So y'all are entitled to your own opinion but pipes have gotten me out of a jam several times. But Im not one of those "look at me" dudes who sit at the light gunning the motor. Is my bike loud....hell yes. Do I apologize? ..hell no. If my pipes bother somebody I really dont care. I know that might sound a bit selfish....so be it. I would rather have them be bothered than have me get hit. So which end of that is selfish?
