Tires - Again... 3 Years, 6 Months ago
So.... I called up the dealership today to get a quote on a new rear tire. New Dunlop Cruisemax, installation, and labor: $287, + $80 for an oil change using four quarts of AMSOIL, for a total of $360.

They have to order the tire because they don't keep whitewalls in stock, but it'll take one day to get 'er done.

Good deal?

id guess that if you took the wheel off your bike (just bring them your wheel) and did oil change yourself you could halve that cost...if you arent a fan of taking wheel off, you should still probably do oil change yourself just to see how your oil looks and its only about 45 bux to do it yourself

Yeah... You're probably right, but I also want them to check the brakes, lube the front axle, and a handful of other odds and ends that I know they'll take care of.

No, I don't think that's a good deal. Firstly, I think I'd do the oil change myself. Gotta be cheaper than $80 even using Amsoil. Besides, it's kinda fun.

Second, the tire you're gonna put on retails at CrusierCustomizing.com for $145.00+ $7 shipping, so $152 delivered to you. So, $130 to install one tire, even a rear? Not for me!

I just had two Metzelers I bought from CycleGear installed at my local Yamaha dealer for $100 total. They made nothing on the tire sale and still only charged me a C note.

I'd press for a better deal or look elsewhere.

My 2cts....

EDIT: OK, I just read your added post. Your original question didn't mention the other work you were having them do in addition to the tire install, so without knowing exactly what's going on it's tough to answer.

That's pricey frank. You can do your own oil for under $60. To change both front and rear is usually around $350 for me, installed with tax. The rear usually runs a bit more than the front. I think anything over $200 for the rear is robbery. My dealer only charges $25 per tire for installation if I buy the tire from them.

I agree with Mark. I've bought my tires from AMT or DennisKirk and then $50 each to mount and that was with them still on the bike. These bikes are amazingly super easy to work on. Just pay attention as to how you take it apart and then put it back together. If you've ever done the brakes on a car then these will be a piece of cake!

Frank, I don't need new tires yet, but I know you enjoy a little fun, so do us a favor, if you change your own tires, please video it for us. You can sell it to Americas Funniest Videos and we will all vote for you to win the $10K and you will never have to change another tire for as long as you own the bike.

Come on Frank, you know it would be a winner!!! Almost as funny as if I tried it!
