Best upgrades for the Buck? 3 Years, 6 Months ago
I'm looking at low cost upgrades, I don't want to have to dump a ton into the bike right away. What are some low cost upgrades that really make a BIG differance? Engine, Tires, Looks?

Thanks, And I know that I will get lots of opinions on this, so if you have a Pic of what you did it would be the most helpfull. Thanks,

dont know what you mean by cheap haha nothing is cheap

but i know anytime i get a bike pipes are always the first thing i do...i need it loud

for speed you may want to look into a 31tooth pulley
looks are a personal thing but i like the looks over a lowered bike so you could do the flip and grind to lower it for free

Stage your exhaust - Free
Poor mans BAK - Free
Flip and grind to lower - Free
Re-jet - $55
Ported intake - Free
Remove AIS - $8
Vent gas cap - Free

Then start spending money on everything else.

That's a good list... definitely start with the AIS removal, $8! I also removed the fuel pump, $0, and used the original mount to make a very factory looking choke mount under the tank, $0. Subtle... looks good.

I staged my exhaust first, but found the Santees in the pic on eBay cheap, $170... love 'em. I have a poor man's BAK with a K&N, $50, but have Mr.C's universal K&N, $45, to fabricate a mount for... I want to further open the view of the jugs. I rejetted... Dyno jet kit off Ebay, $27!

There's plenty you can do... costs don't have to run high, and I got all my best ideas from... RoadStarClinic!

I don't know your budget but the answers easy.

-eibach rear spring
-exhaust (perferably rinehart)

Budgets are like butt's, we all have them, and most of them stink.

I have to be careful, the bike is still under factory warranty and I don't want to void that warranty.

depends on what is most important to you and what your budget is. If performance is the most important thing, than what is suggested already is a good start. Pipes and a BAK or a different air box will really change the looks as well.

If looks are important; lowering the bike will give the bike a beefy look, you can do this for free using the flip and grid method.

Keep in mind what look you're going after and determine how much you are willing to eventually spend for that look. Its been said before that if you just keep buying stuff without having a plan, you will waste money in the long run. Have a plan. Look on various sites and find bikes you like and accessories you like and form a plan.

what is your start off budget?

Depending on what the market does this week, I have about $1 - $1,000 that my girlfriend doesn't know about.
Again, I have to be carefull not to VOID my factory warranty.

I like the Low riders, but I think I will get more going twards the Dresser look. We want to make some long runs next summer, maybe pulling a camper.

How about high compression pistons w/ upgrade valve springs, or a big bore job

At least a Nemesis intake manifold or hand-ported stock.
