6hrbt3,
No, right in front of the engine (behind the front wheel) you'll see a rectifier. Remove the two nuts from the rectifier and behind it you will see two hoses connected to a device. Remove the two hoses and plug them, I used bolts and electrical tape. See attached

Upside:
Stops popping or backfiring, maybe
Cleans up the engine
Downside:
Pollutes the air
Bottom line:
Do whatever works or makes you feel good.

OK I am completely lost. I removed the rectifier, but did not see two hoses in back of it. My rectifier does not hang down as yours does in the pictures, mine has a plug in on the top of the rectifier, as your pictures show the plug on the bottom. I am including some web links to some pictures I took, if someone would be kind enough to look at them and tell me which hoses should be disconnected and a plug placed in the end. It is a 2007.

In the tech articles there are AIS removal instructions with pictures for 1600, 1700, and the Cali model.

Morning 6hrtbt3,

Ok, looked at your pics and here's the deal: if all you want to do is disable the AIS you don't really need to move the rectifier.

I disabled mine for about a week before my removal kit arrived (eBay...$16) and here's the verbal description: Go to the other side of the bike, the left side. Look at the larger diameter metal tubes, one each running up to the upper part of the cylinders. These tubes attach to rubber tubing that runs over to that mess up front. Here's a cool trick: take the rubber tubes off and plug them there with a wire nut (you know, the things used to twist wires together.) I had some yellow ones that fit in there nice and snug, and then I reattached the hoses so it looked stock.

Next, find the small....the small....hose that attaches to the AIS pump, about 1/8th inch hose. It attaches to the top of the pump, and it also is accessed from the left side of the bike. Pull that and plug the hose with a bolt. I used a zip tie around it to make sure it sealed. This hose runs up directly to your intake manifold, so if you don't plug this well you'll end up with a massive intake leak. This will stop the pump from running needlessly.

This will disable the AIS. If you like the way it runs after this mod, I suggest getting the kit and removing all of it. Reason: after just a week of running it disabled, when I finally removed all the stuff there was considerable condensation in the tubes between the block I'd put in and the cylinders. Can't be good long term, I thought.

Hope this helps.....all written with only the first cup of coffee

As long as you don't have a stubborn screw(as I did) this should be a 1 hour job MAX!

Having the tank empty or near empty will take away any heavy lifting and it's simply a matter of removing things and installing a few. Even someone with limited wrenching experience should be able to do it with some attention to detail and patience. Pictures do help.

Here's a link to the ebay seller page where I bought my kit. Great pics and step-by-step instructions that worked well for me. (No offense to the person who put together the tech article on AIS removal, but the one at this ebay seller is more clear and precise.)

AIS Removal

For those that are interested: The kit was well done, had good quality materials and included everything I needed to complete this job.

Hope this helps out.

M7,

Same kit I eventually used, and yes, the directions were about fool-proof!

It was a good exercise in learning how to work on the Roadie.

Thank you guys for your responses. I think I will order a ais removal kit, and take it off when the weather gets colder. Have a few other things I want to do such as stebel horn, headlight modulator, stage one on my stock exhaust and putting it on the bike instead of Khrome Werks exhaust. So I guess I will just make an all day project when it is to cold to ride. Thanks again
