Fuses? 3 Years, 6 Months ago
New to this forum, and new to metrics, so bear with me on this one.
Bought my 05 RS 1700 used. No manuals...nothing except the title. Rather than screw something up, I figure it's better to look a little dumb than spend time and money I don't have.
Instrument cluster stopped working...suddenly. No fuel guage (mainly). Bike now will start up, but about 0 acceleration.
The bike has a fuel pump...right?
Have I blown a fuse? (breaker?)
Where are the friggin fuses on this bike?
First step was to check the batt. cables, and I DID have a loose+ pos cable. Tightened that, and the bike began being contrary.
Been riding the American big bike since 71, and this is my first metric. It's an outstanding bike, and compares well to my previous v twins. I'm just a bit unschooled on it.
Any help would be a great help.
Thanks all....ride safe

LH side panel holds the keys to the fuse kingdom.

The fuses are behind the left side cover. If you do a search here for "Service manual" you will find a link where you can look at or download the service manuals for free.

Are you still having the same problem since tighting up the cable? What do you mean by 0 acceleration?

There could be several issues at hand, but as far as the insrument panel being dead then I would suspect a fuse.

The other culprit sometimes is if you have passing lamps there could be a short in there. The dealer installs them on the bike when they take the bike out of the crate and they do a quick poor job at it.

Mine had an exposed wire touching the housing.

Anyway give us a little more info and we should be able to dial you in.

Expa, first .

The more information you can give us, the better we can help you. For instance, more detailed information about what you mean by 0 accelleration, it stalls, sputters, dies??? Also what kind of set up does your bike have. Is it stock or have there been modifications made to it. Any relevant info will help us help you. Like some have already said, great guys here that are willing to help ya!

Ratl.
