I go into Ill often, and I have yet to ever be hassled by LEO. Many states have laws covering modifications of exhaust systems. Most of the time they are used when someone is being an ass, and there is not a law on the books to be able to ticket them for being an ass. I covered about 6000 miles this last summer, most of it out of state, and the only contact I ever had with LEO was talking with them at gas stops. Most all of them (specially the ones on bikes) were cool. If you go looking for trouble, you will find it. And they will find (and fine) you...

I'm in regardless of where we decide to have it. Missouri is fine with me also, lots of good riding country there.
But I do think your all getting a little over paranoid about the after market pipe thing in Illinois. Almost every guy I ride with has drag pipes or some type of aftermarkets on their bike. As long as your not getting stupid with them, and they are not breaking out any windows, I've never had any of us get stopped for noise levels. Ya just gotta have a little restraint and stay out of the throttle when you need to.

Agreed, I ride into Il all the time. I have only seen one road block where they were doing a license check and a DB check if they deemed needed. There are a couple of communitites around Chicago that do not allow bikes in town. or so I have heard, but if you are just passing through, be smart and no is going to bother you. Decide to crank your throttle at a stop sign and you may draw attention to yourself.

I agree with Javawave, if you are respectful, and don't hammer on the throttle, you won't draw attention to yourself, also, if you are "Out of State" they most likely won't impound your bike, I hope..

The more I watch this thread the more I'm planning. However, has there been a consensus as to the final destination yet? I've heard several locations mentioned but nothing fairly solid. I'm pretty flexible on the date and such. BTW May 17 is our 34th anniversary but there's no way on earth she'd wanna trek along so it'd be just me. Besides, after this long though I doubt that she'd oust me right?

Lived in Illinois all my life. I've been on poker runs where I couldn't hear my bike running because of the other aftermarket exhausts. As was said earlier unless your trying to wake the dead in front of a LEO you got no worries here. Heck, you guys ever hear of the Springfield mile? It's like the H-D minor league farm system in this state... Mega-noise.

Spudwrench is scoping a few locations, looking into lodging and camping for those dates, once he has narrowed it down to a couple or 3, he will take a consensus for about 3 days to see who likes which one best, then we will set the location.
