I posted this on a different post regarding the law changes that went into affect here in Florida recently. FYI

The statute reads:
(3) The license tag of a motorcycle or moped must be permanently affixed horizontally to the ground and may not be adjusted or capable of being flipped up.

Previous post...

Folks, as an LEO in Orlando (Orange County) let me try to clarify. The three laws that were passed and went into affect October 1, 2008 were geared for street bikes (crotch rockets) but technically apply to all. First one is regarding wheelies (F.S.S.316.2085(2)). Both tires must be on the road at all times. The second one is 50 m.p.h. over the posted speed limit. And the third is regarding license plates (F.S.S.316.2085(3)). It is meant to deal with the crotch rockets that turn their tags up so they can't be seen by the police (because they run from us) and the cameras at the toll plazas. Tags mounted vertically along the left fender are a violation under the wording in the statute. We have been advised to show great restraint regarding modifications like many of us have on our bikes. I beleive the statute will be modified to allow the modification mentions here as long as the tag can be read. Here are the fines for the three above listed violations:

1st offense $1,086 fine
2nd offense $2,586 fine, 1 year license suspension
3rd offense $5,000 fine, 3rd degree felony, 10 year license suspension

Anyone that lives in Florida would agree many of the sport bikers are out of control and it is surprising how many don't even have motorcycle endorsements on their licenses. I wouldn't worry about the license mounts on our bikes. It would be highly unlikely you would get a ticket for having it mounted vertically as long as it can be read.

Yea I hear ya, A lawyer recently wrote in a magazine that gen public groups us Cruiser in with all "motorcyclist" and he means us in with the rocket riders. Shame shame. Still I have no idea why they sell such machines, why you need to go that fast that quick is beyond me.

I want to bring this up because I was reading through and someone here said "if you are travelling to Florida"
If my bike meets the State requirements where it's registered how do the laws effect me in another state? For instance, in SC I am not required to have turn signals on a vehicle if the steering column is less than 24" from the extremties of the vehicle, can I get a ticket in NC if they require Signals?

You are covered by the statues of the registered state. Just like all the PA drivers don't all of a sudden need front license plates on their cars just because they're in NJ. Just make sure you're legal where you're from.

Thanks for claifying that point. That makes sense to me. Now for teh reason I looked up this thread.

Has nyone made a lay license plate bracket that replaced everything but the tail light? I'm losing the factory turnsignal and bulky plate mount but I din't know what to do with the hulk of wires there. Any drawing or pic would be helpful.

Resistors? Probably run into a heat issue though.

I assume you're talking about a license plate light. You can use these led license plate bolts. Got a pair for my brothers vertically mounted plate. Work like a champ & they're already 12v.

nice..I've seen the bolt lights before but they were really bulky. That is very clean looking, thanks abunch. Just bolted everything else together and it looks clean. Best of all it didn't cost me one red cent, just a red hacksaw blade though -- OUCH -- lol
