Oily Pushrod tube 3 Years, 5 Months ago
I am looking for any threads that deal with oil gathering at the bottom of my air filter.

If anyone knows of threads that have already covered this please point me in the right direction I have done two searches but didn't hit the paydirt I was looking for.

If not then can anyone shed any light on this. It's a first for me but what I am talking about is an oily residue on the push rod tubes after a ride yesterday. I rode two up and don't do that too often. I also noticed that there was a small amount of dirty oil gathering at the bottom of my air filter.

Do you have your Crank case vent hooked into your air kit? The bak instructions call for doing that and there is a nipple on the back of the air kit for the hose coming from the back head....

If you do, this is what is causing the problem. I never used those air kit nipples, just blocked them off with a cap instead. To do that you have to find somewhere to vent your crankcase. You will need to get a longer rubber hose for it, then find a place to route it.

I ran mine up to the back bone, back under the nose of the seat and down along the up tube under the front of the seat to the ground. I also used a Krankvent there to keep contaminates from working their way back into the head. Lots of folks have found a place to mount a small airfilter somewhere along the lower part of the frame and used those instead.

Lots of ideas, and lots of posts about them. Look for crank case vents or krankvent or oil case breather.

Thanks Gram, and yes I do have the the vent hose hooked to the back of the BAK. Do you know the reasoning they suggest you place the vent hose here?

Is there any reason that this would have started happening now? Not a drop coming out that thing for 5 months.

Never had the oil there before. I just noticed it after the two up ride so it got me thinking that maybe it was the extra stress on the bike. Now it's there all the time and I can run my finger under the air filter and have it come back with a drop of oil on it after each ride.

Would colder temps cause it to happen more often?

My last thought was that maybe the line was clogged and something burned through and it should have always been doing this.

No. That would make sense as I have put in just a bit too much before on the dirtbike and had it blowoff immediately after warming up.

But no haven't changed the bike in anyway. The only different factors have been the two up riding and the colder weather.

Stocked,
Perhaps the cold could contribute a little. More likely, two-up and shifting a little soon. Hard pulling at lower RPMs creates more crankcase pressure leading to more venting. Just my opinion.

Ok that would make sense. I'll stretch the shifts out a little and see what I get. I'm gettin' tired of wiping the mess off the header and push rod tube. I will re-route the hose, but it has just been buggin' me as to the source of it.
