Yeh, Ethanol contains far fewer BTUs than the same quantity of gas... you'll get lower gas mileage. Fuel mileage with today's gas will be several % points lower... typically about 5% less.

Alright check this out. I just got back from the dealership where I bought my bike. I rode straight back to the shop. First off, the head mechanic acted like it was a pain in the azz for him to stop working on his personal bike to talk to me. Every time I go back there, the head mechanic is working on his kids dirt bike. Anyway, I asked him about the fuel mileage and told him I was currently getting somewhere between 25 and 30 MPG and he just stared at me like so whats the problem? I told him others were getting 45 and even 50 MPG. I asked him if it would get better after break in and he said not that much better, maybe a couple more MPG. I asked him why there was such a difference in fuel mileage between the same model bikes, and he just shrugged his shoulders and said that is just the way it is. About 100 miles per tank of gas. Needless to say I was not satisfied with his indifferent answer. I don't believe there can be that much difference between the same model bike. From other posts I have read here, the above indifference seems to be the status quo at Yamaha dealers and their service dept.

State of carb settings is just about everything when it comes to getting all your mpg, as long as there are no new obstructions in your intake or exhaust set-ups to raise the constriction that already exists with the stock arrangement.
First question would be, how is it running? Does it seem to run well at all sensible rpm and gear ranges, with no unnecessary full-throttle blasting or low rpm lugging? If so, with your poor mileage, an almost certain overly-rich condition exists.
I easily get 140 miles per tank, and sometimes run it out to 160, or a little more.
Give some serious consideration to doing a Stage 1 mod program of freeing up the intake and exhaust, with a carb rejetting, and maybe an ignition module swap... I did all those, and couldn't be happier with the results!

Like most others, someplace between 38 and 45 depending on how I ride. I get about 160 before my low fuel guage comes on and I normally fill @ 175 +- cause I really don't want to know how far i can go before empty....especially if I don't have a small quatity to refill it. I've never felt that apathy from my dealer. They try to help figure out whats wrong if you have a problem.

This is a fuel injected 2008.

Ah... really!?!?! That's not cool.
I'd be on the phone to Yamaha... and I wouldn't leave them alone until I got some real help. Start some serious documenting of your actual results. Keep some kind of log with all gas receipts and mileage calculations. Need at least 5 tanks worth to have a credible record. Note general riding conditions and manner.
I wish you all the best... but that just ain't right.

From what I've read here... not dealerships treat their customers the same. The one I deal with takes good care of my bike, and is eager to resolve any problem that comes up.
If I was only getting 100 from a tank of gas, I'd be worried. Granted, you're bikes not broken in yet. I don't think mine started getting really decent gas milage until it had 3 or 4,000 miles on the "clock". Yours being fuel injected, I figure it will get better one it gets broken in.
Like the others, I average 150 to 175 miles before the fuel light comes on. But, of course, it all depends on how much I twist her ear........
Gotta feed them horses......

If anything, I would have thought that fuel injection would have increased mpgs.
