I, too, have to get a new rear tire before the season starts (grrrrrr snow, cold, ice). I think I'm going to either Metzler or Continental vs. the Dunlop. I ride a lot of 2 up & the Dunlop seemed to wear a little wide. I checked the pressure often & always put 41# in the rear. Will the Metz or Conti wear any better?

What kind of mileage did you get on the Dunlops I used to run them back in the early 90s on my Virago and they were good tires....Coug

Yeh Ive been running the 160 with no problems. The biggest Car Tire that you can go is 185/55 if you were to go with a car tire. The hard part is getting a shop to mount one for ya.

You are supposed get a whole bunch more miles out of a car tire. Never tried it myself so can't speak from experience.

I understand their harder compound but you want a softer compound with the bike especially on the side of the tire!my02$

I swore I'd never go to the dark side, but after getting caught in a few winter storms, Ice Snow and Snow Ice and wind, and even one four seasons in 45 minutes, rain sleet hail and snow. I'd think a Car tire might be on for next winter, I'll mount it myself.

The traction has to be better, and you don't lean into corners in the winter anyways from like Oct to March around here. Today was a nice day to ride but that gritty crap from whatever they are putting on the road is in every intersection, curve, middle and sides of each lane. You have to mind you P's an Q's. Kinda fun to peel out it some of it. xt rear tire I am going to give it a wack.

So anyways I take back what I said about the darkside, Ne

I put a Contimilestone on mine last summer, I got about 5000 miles on it. I didn't think it lasted very well myself. I went with Me880's after that. I only put a 1500-2000 on it after that, but they look better than the Conti's did with that many miles on them. Just my opinion.

I'm going to be changing my tires before this next riding season too. But, I'll be installing the AVON tires. I had these on my 99 Vulcan 1500 Classic and they were great. They didn't wear out as fast as my friends who was using the Metzler's. Both are good tires, but I really liked the way AVON's handled and seemed to wear more evenly than the Metzlers.
