Are there any performance gains with the AIS removal, or is it just aesthetics?

The AIS system injects air into the exhaust, and is post ignition.

It won't effect performance at all.

Some folks have a little less (or eliminate) exhaust popping though.

The primary advantage is cosmetic, and its a good one.

When I did the AIS removal mod the instructions said to use a long screwdriver & hammer from the right side of the bike to knock the elbows out.

I really didn't like the idea of swinging a hammer "towards" my new bike , so I also used vice grips, as part of a slid hammer.

I removed the adjusting screw from the pliers and replaced it with about 3ft. of threaded rod. I borrowed the slide portion of an actual slid hammer from work and put it on the rod then put some washers and nuts on the far end. Voila', a home made slide hammer.

Use the threaded rod to adjust the pliers for attaching to elbows. You want this to be tight!!

If you don't have access to a slid hammer you could probably use something similar that has some weight to it.

The most it took was two wacks with this contraption and they were out.

I've used it on 2 other bikes without any problems. The left side cover needs to come off and we took the tank off as well to remove the vacuum hose & cap of it's connection point.

Like Gram said, the mod is cosmetic but worth the effort.

I got a dumb question....Those plugs that I'm putting in my freezer and then into the cylinder heads....where are those coming from? Do they sell plugs for this?

You might be able to find the kits cheaper somewhere else but that's what you're after. Some people use fired 45 ACP cases as plugs also.<br><br>Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/01/27 18:28

E-Bay has tons of the and also has the ones for 04 and up. I loved ripping mine off no more popping.

Just bought a pair on Ebay from nightskycustoms.com for $9.95 ($8 for the plugs and $1.95 shipping). Half the price of J&amp;P Cycles, Chaparrall Motor Sports, etc. (Maybe a shell casing looks cooler though).

Removoing the AIS shouldn't make any difference in the way the bike runs. You don't need to do anything to the carb. Did you get the plugs in the jugs right? Is the nipple on the manifold sealed good? A leak somewhere is the only thing that would make the bike run different.

Thank you for your comment I already checked all what you were telling at me and I didn`t find anything about leaking, actually the real problem I found is when I start the engine the first time in the day it goes whith some kind of explotions and then just turn itself off, then I have to turn it on again and if I start running it goes like coughing the first 3 minutes the every symptom just disappear I think it happens when it turn hot I guess, please what can I do
