no need to touch the exhaust.. but here is your problem

Japanese phillips screws have a broader shallower drive than US phillips and if you you use a US Phillips screwdriver
from your tool chest..it tends to spin and not grip well...

so have you tried the phillips from your tool kit ..and like Musky pointed out a larger phillips #3 might do the trick and of course maybe Yammi has put loctite on them thar screws

Also, pull the rectifier. It's in the way, and it's near impossible to get that crap out of there without removing the rectifier. Just be sure to put it back on when you're finished.

No worries. Mine stripped out when I took them off too. Not a big deal if you have to drill them out a bit, but like the guys said, try a different Phillips.

I had the same problem but as mentioned the right driver removed them with no problem. Had me cursing like a sailor and just before striping them beyond repair I try a different driver and they came out like they were loose.

After trying with a phillips head screw driver and nearly destroying the head I ended up having to clamp down on those screws with a vice-grip pliers in order to break the screw free. Once it got free it turned out fairly easily.

Some use a dremel to cut a flat head slot and get them out that way. Those screws were the hardest part about getting the AIS off the bike.

Good Luck!

I bet there is Loctite on those. Shoot some penetrating oil on them and let them soak a few minutes.
