About a month ago I went from Mobil 20-50 to rottela 15-40 because of PRICE $45 oil change VS $12 for rottella I noticed a noisier engine (more knock) and seems as though more vibration, seems like I need to shift sooner, i don't have a tach. when I can afford it I'm definetly going back to Mobil 20-50 By the way I live in Florida and about the coldest I've had to ride in is 50 degrees. Not only that pour rotella into a clear cup and Mobil 1 it seams like a dark substance coagulates in the rotella like when you fry something and the oil seperates from the food remains. I thought ther was something in the oil but if you shake it up.

Hey ROADSTAR TEST PILOT checking in. I have mixed 1/2 Syn with 1/2 dino Castrol Gtx and ran it 6,000 miles with no problem. They make thier own blend but by me doing it myself it was $4.00 cheaper.

In 42,000 miles of riding my 2 1/2 year old Road* I have only run Motorcycle Specific oil once.
I even ran the Mobil 1 Synthetic car oil for 12,000 miles before changing. The bottle said guaranteed for 15,000 miles so I figured what the heck.

Now some guys here think I am crazy because our tranny and engin share the same oil and it is bad on the clutch. Well when I changed it the viscocity was just braking down and it was a little brown.

Now in my opinion a car that has eight cylinders and under much more stress then two cylinders should have the oil breaking down alot sooner then a bike.

So it is up to you if you want to mix or not. OSO

I ran the 15w50. I dont think it says the 15,000 mile Guarantee on it anymore. It was over a year ago when I did that.

Right now I have the Castrol Gtx 20w50 car oil in it.

I appreciate everyone's opinions. I am new with my bike, and still giddy over it. At this point I need to mae a decision, because after I get my bike out and the trans recall is done I am going to drive it for about 200 miles or so and then change the oil. Everyone has their own experiences, and each bike to an extent reacts somewhat different. I would much rather to contribute to this forum than be a pain, I just started this idea of making a Rotella blend. As one fella said motor oil especially for automobile is changing....

I have made up my mind to go with the Pure One or Mobile 1 filter and use the 20/50 Mobile V twin synthetic. I can pick up the oil and Mobile 1 filter all at AutoZone in one sweep. Yes I get a little goofy with everyone chiming in with their own 2-cents but that's what these kinds of forums are about. I would have never known about the recall on the transmission if it was not for this forum.

I love to fish, and have 4.5 acres of lake front property in Lake Fork TX (east TX) and recently bought me a John Deere to clear all the small scrubs etc so I can get my brush hog in between the trees. Very nice looking property. I have a garage, with concrete floor put in and have alot of work in front of me. I also own a home that was built in 1935 inwhich I am restoring. Love those pier and beams as plumbing etc can be ran under the flooring.

So... I am not even certain if i dont just change the oil once a year anyway. So spending whatever it cost to get the best for my bike should and is not an issue.

I appreciate you fellas and we may be different but we all have one thing in common... we love our Road Stars... thanks for the feed back, I will put what oil and filter issues that I had to rest. this forum rocks.

have a nice day, and safe Thanksgiving Holidays... drive safe and watch out for those cell phone drivers

Your asking information about oil from a group of people that:
a) has never heard of Rotella T
b)doesn't think it will work because it's not jaso rated
c) guys that live so far north they don't understand and won't ever understand riding in weather that is akin to riding in a hair blow dryer.

Just put 4 quarts of Rotella T,Delvac 1300,Delo 400 15-40 Dino in it and go. It will be just fine. For expert information on oil try a different site. Oiling the engine is easy. That's not the problem. It's the shear from the tranny that's using up the oil's package with the other oil types. Our motors cost peanuts compared to an over the road diesel motor. Use the Mobile 1 M-110 or Puralator Pure One 14610. This type of attention to detail is more important to you and others living in GODS Country. It's not nearly as important to the guys in Obama Land.

Why would any of us need to try a different site for expert info when we have all the experts we need right here.

I know I am getting in late in the play, but I for one don't see a thing wrong with your thread topic. We all learn by asking questions. Yes, it may have been asked before but so what, I bet your specific question has not been asked. If so, again, so what. Keep asking questions, we are all here to learn and teach each other. Get-R-Done.

Alright, now I'm jealous. I am also a Bass Angler and have been wanting to move out around the Lake Fork area for a while now. It is my dream to get out of this metromess to the east Texas country side.
Here is a pic of my fishing barge.
