Congrats on the new arrival....my xyl is @ 5'1" and rides occasionally but enough that if i took the rest off it would be a pain to put it back on.
She always felt uncomfortable with the shorter sissy bar/rest so i got her the taller one and what a difference it made TO HER....it not only made her feel more comfortable, she could lean back and relax if she wanted to without feeling she was going to fall off.
Another thing i did last spring was get some rear grab rails from MC Enterprises http://www.mcenterprisesusa.com/products/search/dsp_searchForm.cfm. Now, she feels as snug as a bug in a rug....plus they can function as an additional tie down if she's not on the back.
Just remember she has to be comfortable and feel safe to enjoy the ride....after that's accomplished, you'll have a great riding partner. 
Enjoy your time together away from your daughter when you get the chance, at her yourng age, its few and far between. I think I'd start saving for a sidecar.

When my wife rides, which isn't often, she leans back... and sits so far away from me... I don't even know she's there! She's all of 5'2" and 105 lbs.
I much prefer when we go on the V-Star, with no back rest... she snuggles up close, and hangs on tight! Do I like that!!! |

IF you travel you can get a trunk with wrap back rest similar to harley.

Check out the Sacramento Craigslist under Roadstar. Someone has the side arms, short upright and pad for $150. Great deal.
Also, I thought your bike was for sale. I saw it at Roseville Cycle.

There should be someone who might have removed thier's? Or would it be specific to the 08? I have a shorty backrest bar off my 07 you can have for the cost of shipping, you would still need the eyebrows and a pad thou.

Nightrider.. Im back  I went and picked the bike up last saturday I never wanted to sell in the first place the whole wife/baby thing..After I took it for a ride up into Salmon falls I came home said "she is staying im not dumping her" |
