Luggage Rack 3 Years, 4 Months ago
Hey all,

I've got a 2004 Silverado Midnight 1700. Everything is stock, but I've been looking for a luggage rack. I've already ordered and bought 2 different racks that were described as for my bike, however did not fit. Both seemed to be for a "one up" Roadstar.

I want to add some kind of big bag for longer trips and just felt that I should add the rack to keep the rear fender from getting scratched up.

Could use some feedback on rack options,(who makes the stock sissy bar?) and what luggage is good. Thanks!

Check out South Seattle Yamaha. Got mine from them and mounts to the backrest. $85 plus shipping.

As far as a bag I have the Kuryakyn Full Dresser Bag. I love it. Be patient and shop around ebay, etc.and you can find a good deal.

After re-reading your post, I see you have a Silverado, so a lot of what follows doesn't apply. I thought you did not already have sissy bar, etc. (duh)

You may have been looking at fender racks rather than the oem "rear luggage rack". Fender goes on fender; luggage fits behind sissy bar. Part STR-4WM51-20-00 is the rear luggage rack, but you would also need the side rails and sissy bar (short or tall) plus backrest. Getting into an expensive proposition just to add the luggage rack.

If I were going to add all that stuff (my silverado came with all but the luggage rack), I might consider the new "quick release" parts that are now offered. They cost plenty, but none of the older stuff will fit the QR parts per Yamaha. The main reason for this would be allowing you to modify the look of your bike for two-up, touring or single riding much easier.

Backrest Sidearms - Quick Release STR-5VN41-10-00 $246
Backrest upright - Quick Release Short STR-5VN41-30-01 $115
Backrest upright - Quick Release Tall STR-5VN41-30-02 $125
Quick Release rear luggage rack TBA - may be available $$??

BTW, the QR side arms also come with eyebrows. I think these parts may be cheaper than comparable older parts that are not QR compatable.

I put on a factory road * rack and it works fine. I also got a great deal on a mini tourpak roll on Ebay for $25 (see sig pic). I really like the roll on the rack as I can put my helmet in it with gloves, etc. and put all my sunglasses and night glasses in the side pocket and still have room in my bags for groceries or if touring, clothes.

swapped my short uprights for tall ones. Sold the short one on ebay a few years ago. Need the tall one for luggage. If you already have a silverado, just need to get the tall upright and the luggage rack. You'll see the tall in my sigpic

I got my luggage rack from my dealer for $40.00. Said it was ordered for someone else and it sat for 2 years in their storage. NCY.com in San Diego has all Yamaha parts cheaper than from dealer or Roadstar catalog.
