I am running Metzlers now. Like 'em. Put new set on in June and got just about 10,000 on them now. Back looks ok but is getting thin. Front is in awesome shape. Pretty standard since most of the weight is on the back end anyway. But I put 4600 of those miles 2 up fully loaded on the interstate. (Colorado to Florida and back)

Now that is some riding right there, 4600 miles. I am so looking forward to the day that I can say I rode from Pa to Alaska and back.

I've got the Metzeler 880 on mine and love them. When I was doing research, it came down to the Metz and to these: http://www.tiresunlimited.com/ALL%20TIRES/Continental/continental_milestone.htm

Love the Metz, but the Continentals were rated right up there with them. And like the Metzeler they're German, but NONE of the Conti's are manufactured in Brazil... I think I might try these next time.

160 is the largest for a 3.5 rim...Metzler recomends this size to increase the payload capacity..I changed mine a was surprized at how much more tire there was from the 150..I think Metz make a fatter tire in general..Made me 1.5 inches taller .
I love these tires..My v-star had a 170 and my buddy put a 200 on his and we could't see the difference. But not so with the 150 to 160 exchange..

I need some new skins soon and leaning towards the Metzlers however I am intrigued by the Avon Venom. More money but looks ike a heck fo a tire. I don't drag frame parts much any more and riding in the rain only occurs on accident. I'm looking for something that sticks in the dry and gives me more confidence than the stockers.

suggestions?

Takehikes,I've run several sets of the Dunlop Cruisemax and liked them. This time I went with the Avon Venom's to try them. Haven't been able to very many miles on them yet but they ride good. Of course new tires usually do My .03cents anywho.
