Sounds similar to something that started with my 01R last fall. Pulled up to an intersection & found that I had play in the clutch lever & had dificulty putting bike into gear, I had the cable adjusted & it helped but if I snapp the throttle while in 5th gear it slips. I've made arrangements to take it to a local Yamaha dealer next week for the tranny tech buletin. Not being too familiar with the inside of bikes. Can anyone tell me if the clutch comes out when this work is done & if there is a problem with the clutch would I be looking at labour costs aswell as parts? I know I'm changing topics a little but what items should I also have addressed while the bike is being stripped down?
