Air Intake Question 3 Years, 3 Months ago
I'm not sure if the Jetting forum is the right place for this question, but I figured it'd be close enough. I also know that this isn't Road Star related, but the theory is the same regardless of what bike we're talking about (I think) and I value and trust the opinions here more than some other forums. So here goes......

I bought this filter (see pics below) for my Vulcan 800A but now that I have it, I'm kinda concerned about it's size, thinking it might be too small to allow the bike to breath/run properly. I contacted the seller and he/she assured me that this same size filter can be used on any size motor without any problems.

I purchased this on Ebay after seeing the pictures I've posted here, so the seller wasn't misleading at all. I just didn't bother to put into perspective just how small it would be. Other than that, it's a perfect fit and the quality seems to be topnotch.

So what do the "experts" think? I realize I'll have to rejet and thats okay, but will this filter allow enough air into the carb so the bike will run at highway speeds? Or will it be starved for air?

Thanks for any and all input!!

In The Wind,
Aaron

compared to stock it should allow quite a bit more air to flow it's wide open instead of one little opening through a snorkle set up. looks nice if you don't want it i'll take it. or put up the link to ebay if they have more.

I'd agree with MNfreak....should be an increase in flow, although the smaller the motor the less gain you usually get from opening things up.

Who makes the filter? Is it K&N?

MNfreak,
You're probably right; compared to the stock intake I guess it will allow more air. I've been running a Thunder Mfg. teardrop intake for a few years now and compared to that, this filter is about half the size, filter-area wise, and that's what had me concerned. Like I said; I'll have to rejet, but that shouldn't be an issue.

As for the link, here it is. And don't let the price fool you; The quality of the filter is much better than expected. This seller also has a lot of motorcycle specific tools for sale too. And they are quick shippers. And no, I'm not affiliated with them in any way.....

Thanks,

this one you might have to play by ear.

that filter is smaller than the standard vulcan element, but there may be a trade off with the flow.

fit it, try it, do a plug chop.

you may be just looking at shimming the needle rather than a complete rejet.

thankfully vulcan 800īs are quite easy to adjust the carburation and not half as sensitive to slight changes as other bikes.

Thanks Erizo....
That's good to know, but what is a "plug chop"?
