Alright I know somewhere, sometime, this has been covered. But some of you are using good old fashioned Diesel oil in your scoots. Anybody ever heard of a failure that could be traced back to the oil? I'm not asking to start a thread on who's the smartest of them all, but my worktruck,a 2000 f350 S/D has been rode hard and put up wet since we got it by ME (bought with 25,000 miles) and just turned over 256,000 miles and we have done NOTHING to the motor. Yes, I know it's a diesel, and that is not uncommon, but I keep her oil changed regularly, and she still runs good.
Now, I'm due for my 2nd oil change in the bike (3000), and want to stick with something good , that has a strong track record. Rotella doesn't sound like a bad start.

If your talking about the 5/40 I've heard a lot of good things over on the RSR site. Go over there and do a search and you should get plenty of info I'm thinkin. You're always going to find someone that will have something bad to say about any oil you ask about.

That might be where I got some of my info from. My parts guys at the honda shop where I've shopped for years (my wife still has a magna), said they too here of customers using it. Yamama has the market on 20/40 huh.

Hey BB, my dad was a trucker, and nothing went into his crankcase but Rotella T. Now for a bike, I'd have to back off of that one. But, what I did for mine was to switch to Mobile 1 vtwin 20/50 (synthetic). I haven't heard a peep out of the bottom of that 102 since I changed over.

I've used Valvoline in my 73' Guzzi since I bought it in 1975, has about 145k on it now and I still take it out and ride it and it runs great. When I got the RS I fiquared technology might have crept up on me so I did a lot of web research on oil for motorcycles. I found much praise for Rottella T, Delco, and such heavy duty oils. I tried Rotella and really liked it. Right now I have Valvoline Synthetic in there. I'm still trying out different oils to see which feels best. Not really sold on the synth and probably will go back to Rotella at the next change. I'm anal about oil and usually change between 1200 $ 1500 miles so I don't worry to much.

How many miles have logged since the switch?
