Doing stage 1 mod to stock pipes 3 Years, 2 Months ago
I Got my 07 R* fall of last year, brand new! I have 600 miles on it and as soon as the snow melts plan on getting plenty of miles in. Have read allot of forums (and still lots more to read) and was curious about the stage one mod to the stock pipes. Any advantages or disadvantages to doing it before the engine is broke in?

You will probably get mixed opinions on it, but I do not see an advantage or disadvantage to doing it before hand. jmo

None at all either way as far as the motor goes. They put pipes, air kits, and jet kits in brand new bikes before they ever leave the dealer if you want them to. The only thing stage 1 will do is make the pipes a little louder.

The only advantage of doing it after a few hundred miles is you will notice the difference!

I drilled out my new 07 to stage 2 with only putting 350 miles on her the first weekend I got her.
I continued to ride the bike per yamaha break in instructions. 5600 miles later and no trouble.
I changed the stock pipes to Bub big Willies 2 weeks ago .
In my opinion the stage 2 sound better then stock.

I just finished stage 3 on my 08 a couple days ago. I put a sound clip on the "What do those pipes sound like" thread. I didn't think of it at the time, but I should have shot a video for the stage 1 as well.
