when I was researching my swap (mine spoked wheels) to Yamaha stock wheels I did an OEM parts number comparison, item by item and the only parts that had different numbers were the clutch hub, the sprocket, and the v-belt. all the other components of the rear tire were the exact same part numbers. I don't know if this means these parts wont interchange but they do have different part numbers. BTW the spacers had the same part number for either wheel . my comparison was 2007 spokes to 2006 mag wheels.

Hmmmmm .... I now have conflicting information from people who have done the mod.
I now see that some have done the wire to mag switch without any additional parts. The information I have for 2 people who have done a 1600 wire to 1700 mag switch (one lives in my area) is that the bearings were different and had to be switched out.
I'm wondering if the bearings on the newer wire wheels are different from the older wire wheels.

That is a great question Doc. I have contemplated a swap but I have never gotten a definitive answer.

I have a definitive answer, inlcuding part numbers (see older threads), but it's based on folks who have done the switch in the past and between a 1600 and 1700.
I'm now getting updates from folks who have done it recently that they did not need to go through the same process.
I'd like to straighten it out if possible to that we are not misleading folks who want to do the switch.

I think it would be great to have a wheel swap chart or something. i have an '02 and wonder if newer wheels have legacy issues with wheel swaps. I keep thinking I'd like to get rid of the wire wheels but I'm not sure that would be worth the money and hassle of adding all sorts of extras to the mod just to get it to work. I need to win the lottery of something just so as I could do all the things I'd like to do to my bike. Anyone have a spare winning ticket they want to get rid of?

Zim;
You have me more confused. Are you saying to make the swap you changed all these parts ? I would think that you would just use your own cush drive and save the money for a belt and such. Maybe I'm reading more into this than you meant

I know the only thing you need is the 05 and up spacer the pulley on the o5 are a different part number they are not as wide if your want you can change the pulley but you have to buy a new belt also but the 03 and older pulleys and rotors but will fit and the front wheel goes right with no mods

Thanks. I knew about a spacer change . I could not for the life of me figure out why Yamaha would change the cush drive. I even went to the Cycle Image site and they too only talk about one cush drive part number. I knew about the front as I did the switch last night to check the rotors that came with the front cast set. Wanted to make sure they are good before I sell em off. Switched back so i can finish off this front tire. I might get 5,000 out of it.
Thanks
