walk outside and take a deep breathe, get a drink of water, anything to keep your mind off the urge. Don't give up though I am down to one cig every once in a while but that is not good enough, working on quitting completely. You can do it, we can do it.

If you do the deep breath thing, you will start to crave fresh air, and that's OK! I know I do, and that's another reason I love to ride!

I don't know how many smokers ride and smoke at the same time, but HOT ASH in the EYE HOLE HURTS!!! Not to mention how dangerous it is.

I am getting ready to quit for the third time. First time lasted 17 years, second three months. Both times I found that cravings were tied to my breathing patterns. I was getting too much oxygen to quickly and my body reacted by craving a cigarette.

I frequently go entire days without smoking right now and have to deal with the cravings in that circumstance. I find that when I get them if I take a moment and breathe very shallow and slowly (duration in, is 1/2 duration out) that the cravings pass very quickly.

Funny that you mention that Sly, can remember years ago usd to get get a pack for 1.75 always said they go over 2 bucks gonna quit. Years later and almost 4 bucks more a pack and I was still smoking, just goes to show the power of addiction.

I remember getting cartons of generic cigarettes for $3.50 in Korea when I was in the Army back in the mid-80s. Name brands were $1.50 more. Wow, $0.35/pack. Prices at the commissary in the US were at the time were a bit more; which was much cheaper than in non-military stores.

Now, I pay $31/carton at an Indian tobacco shop locally here. A carton at a store (even places like Sam's) are like $47+ here. Single packs I've seen for almost $6 here.

Cut back my smoking. When I was in the Army smoked like two packs a day. In Korea, it was more like three. I smoke now less than a pack a day. Of course, I think a lot of it has to do with where you can smoke now. I remember smoking in hospitals, airports, airplanes, malls, even at work while doing my job. Pretty much can't smoke here anywhere anymore, except outside and must be 25ft from the entrance of a store. No smoking in any bars in AZ anymore either.

Same here in Hell Paso, Texas no smoking anywhere not even in the bars. My home town of Las Cruces, NM which is 45 miles across the Texas/ New Mexico border is the same way except there it is county wide. No smoking in bars, restraunts, no where.

Aw, Gram... You can do it, brother. It's tough, but man, if you quit for seventeen years, you can definitely do this.

Its not really if/ but when. Thanks for the supportive prompt

I just have to know I have about a week of light business contact since I tend to get pretty hyped up when quitting.

I am targeting next friday.

good luck to you. I once stopped for 4 years and started again. A few years ago I stopped for 3 months, I must have been pretty cranky around the office because I came back one day and someone had putt a brand new pack of my brand and ligther on my desk as a hint. I started again that afternoon.
