I just Bought my first Road Star.........2006 1700!!! silver and blue! I am just wondering what kind of problems (If any) am i going to run into down the road? Problems? Nothing much really.

Who told you that about the synthetics? It's bunk, most change to synthetics at the 600 mile first oil change.

And congrats on the new roadie If you leave it stock you probably won't run in to any problems at all. It's when we start tinkering with them that we cause problems. And since it's impossible not to tinker with them you will learn how to fix any issues you caused. They want you to stay away from synthetic oil to give the rings a chance to seat and all the parts to wear together.In my opinion there is absolutely no reason to wait past the 600 mile break in to switch to synthetic oil and a lot of people think everything is as seated as it's going to get with in 50 miles or so. The Roadies hate to be babied. It's common for people when they first get them to run one gear to high. The motors hate to be lugged or be anywhere near lugging RPM's. I never shift in to 5th gear below 60 mph. Here's my average shift speeds

Shift into:
2nd - 27
3rd - 42
4th - 53

Use the choke as little as possible and don't let it sit and idle for extended periods. Run ONLY 87 to 89 octane gas. I'm sure others will hop in with more for you.

Yep.. first oil change I went to synthetic. .. run regular gas like the book says. And if it's not black, .. paint it that color and it will go faster. Have fun with it , you'll love it.

Congrats on the new R*, but I'm going to be honest with you and tell you the truth--you are in for BIG problems with the Road Star. More than likely, in order of importance/recurrence:

1) How much chrome to put on.
2) Paying for the chrome.
3) Finding time to put the chrome on.
4) Polishing the chrome.
5) Finding ways to fill the time you've saved that you would otherwise have spent cleaning up oil spots and tightening nuts &amp; bolts if you'd bought a Hearty Dealersum.
6) Repeating steps 1-4.

FYI, there are hundreds of really cool aftermarket accessories to buy from lots of reputable vendors out there (NOT the dealer).

Congrates on your purchase and welcome to the site. I have really learned alot on here. From getting my seat off when I first purchased my Roadstar, better keep it lubed or it can be a booger to get off, to changing my own oil. Just the other day I learned about the choke going in on its own and how to tighten it. I should have ask before I put some gel lube on it and had to hold it out before it warmed up...lol

Only problem I have had from mine is I can't seem to keep a girl friend they want to stay in a do the cuddling thing and I want to ride and work on my bike,,,lmao

In the message anywhere past the end of the last sentance / word click where you want it to be and then go over and click on the one you want. Poof! There she is. If you want to put one in the middle of something you alrerady typed you(At least I) have to highlight and cut all the words after the place you(I) want the emoticon, then place it, then paste all the words I (you) cut back in. Clear as mud?

006, welcome to the forum. Be mindful of HOW to check your oil. The R* uses an oil bag system as opposed to the traditional means. The bike needs to be warmed up properly before checking, or you will get an inaccurate reading. This is all documented in your manual. Also, (and not to alarm you), but you'll probably notice that as your dino oil ages during the break in, the engine will tend to get a bit noisy when warmed up. It is a well known issue, and was cured (in my case), when I switched to synthetic after break in. So, oil, gas, RIDE. Enjoy the new bike. <br><br>Post edited by: Tbone21, at: 2007/02/13 17:08
