Whats Wrong 3 Years, 2 Months ago
|
|
My son just bought a 2002 Roadstar 1600 with 5200 miles on it and it has better get up and go and pulling power than my 2004 1700.Could it be the HD 3" straights because of the lack of back pressure or could something be very wrong with my ride??

Would have to be more than the pipes. The lack of back pressure should hurt in the torque not help.

First you need to take into account that your only talking a 68 cc difference. 1602 vs 1670. The 1600 / 1700 is misleading. What has been done to both bikes?

I am sure we could all figure it out, but you will need to post everything you know about the two bikes:
Carb (stock or other)
Pipes
Air Kits
Manifold (ported or stock)
Etc... I have set up 1600s that will outpull most 1700s, but the 1700s can always win if all is equal.
HKs are tough pipes to get high performance out of, but it can be done. If your son by chance using two into one pipes?

Without starting a war I would add:
how much do you weigh as compared to him? (you have to consider overall weight which includes add ons as well as the weight of the rider)
also clutch slip? (this is a recently heated topic whereas some people believe that synthetics with stock clutch plate/springs will cause more slippage.)
just an idea.

From what you are saying the 1600 is faster than the 1700 no matter who is on what. Where is it faster from start or at highway speed. The oil has been hot topic or at least clutch slippage.
