Personally, I don't care what the gas milage is. It's better than my Silverado but saving $$ on gas is not why I ride.

It could be the gas... refineries are still putting out the winter blend... and lower air temp at this time of the year will affect your mileage too. Refinery change-over is coming, and the blend will be different.

Re:MPG Woes 3 Years, 2 Months ago
Before Curt gets my train of thought off on Texas sucession from the Union

I had a simular issue last month - You said the bike sounds harsher and rougher. My MPG was off and I had gone from 160 to 130 or so on a tank intown. I found the vacum hose off the intake port for the polution junk. I put it back -rode the bike about 12 miles felt better but not completely right. I decided to just go ahead and remove the air-injection mess and put the block off plates on that had been on the shelf for the last six months. What got my attention was the two tablspoons of condisation water that ran out of the chrome tubes when I pulled the rubber hoses loose. That should not be after a 12 mile warm up. Any way it cleared up the harsh issue and I am back up to the 160+ and 41 MPG on the big road.

Yes Curt I believe I have heard that from more Texans than ever before, I am with ya. We can produce our fuel very well sustainon our own .

Try puttin a couple splashes of Seafoam in every tank for the next few tanks and see if it doesnt raise your mileage. Works for me.

I would check my float level. I had sudden mpg change last year. After many carb disasemblys finally checked float level. Needles and seats do wear out.

This topic comes up every year about this time. As some posters have already mentioned it may be the switch from winter to summer gas so before diving into the carb I'd wait a couple of weeks for thinks to statilize and the temp to increase.

If you're not getting 40+ mph around town then you should be looking at 'why not?'

I have had a similar problem before most recently about a week ago. Bike was running sluggish, sounded bogged down. I changed the fuel filter after I ran the tank almost dry and then retanked with Premium and the problem cleared up, been running great since. I average about 44mpg and thats running a combo of in town and 140 miles a week on the highway at 75+mph.

Re:MPG Woes 3 Years, 2 Months ago
I started a fuel mileage thread a few months ago where I documented lots of data between fill ups. I think it is very informative. I intend to add to it now that I have some miles put on the bike so stay tuned. Mine is an 08 fuel injected so if you have a carb it may vary but the FI and the carbed models seem to be comparable in fuel mileage from what I have found. Fuel Mileage Data Thread
