spark plug came out tough won't go back right 3 Years, 2 Months ago

I was changing spark plugs and the right rear plug came out really tough. I went to put the new one in and it goes in about 3/8 inch and gets tight. What is the next step I need to do because I dont want to mess this up. I know what I am doing on most things but I need an expert mechanics opinion on it.
Talk to me and let me know I am thinking probably run a tap though it but not sure let me know
Thanks

I ran into that on a car engine and the only choice was to put a helicoil in. I guess you could try a tap and see..

get a flashlight and a mirror or what ever you need to get a good look at the threads and you'll know right away wether or not a tap will do it

If you do decide to run a tap be careful about metal shavings, they could drop into combustion chamber and cause some internal damage.

I don't know how you would prevent getting some shavings in the chamber, The only saving grace is the shavings will be aluminum and shouldn't hurt the cylinder walls.. I suppose you could rig up a small tube on a shop vac and try and vaccum them out, probably would'nt get em all, but most...

Not a problem the chips will go right out the exhaust and not be a problem.

Make sure you get the tap headed in there straight! You don't want it cross threaded. AT an auto parts place get some "anti seeze compound" and put some on the plug threads when you install them; just might prevent this in the future.

spray the tap and threads with penetrating oil..you will find any crud will migrate to the fluted area of the tap and stick ...
and will come out with the tap..you will be chasing the threads not putting new ones in unless the threads are stripped and you must helicoil

It works great! You still have to be careful and back tap back out after every 1/2 to 3/4 turns and clean. Add more grease to tap and go back in.
