I am just going with the odds here.

The odds that your charging system crapped out is low.

The odds that you got a bad battery new out off the box twice is high.

Have em check that battery anyplace and see if its bad. I doubt that you could short a cell by running it in the bike for a couple of months.

If your charging system was putting out to much juice then, yes, it could fry the battery. Not putting out enough to recharge it, the battery should just go dead and recharge when you put it on the charger over night, if you throw it on the charger and nothing happens, your battery isn't worth crap.

Been down this dark and dusty road..

Just returned a brand new battery that would not hold a charge. The battery was in my wife's 2009 Yamaha XT 250. The dealer readily gave me a new battery and told me this happens quite often. I didn't look, but these batteries are probably another product from China. Since they can't put lead in toys anymore, they have to find another place to use it.

Doc, actually the service manual is ca-ca as far as testing the stator. All that is checking for is continuity between the phases. That check is only going to show if there is an open (broken wire)it will not show any type of internal short or a breakdown in the insulation between windings. There is a complete accurate write-up in the tech articles, this is the only true way to test the charge system.

Also, I know it sounds silly and stupid, but coat your terminals with dialectic grease, and rather than tightening the terminal clamps with the screwdriver slot in the tops of the bolts, use a ratchet on the hex-heads and get them truly snug and tight.

These big girls vibrate like crazy, and they can and will vibrate the clamps loose. The battery will be fine one minute, and then the next time you go to start the bike, pffft... Nothing. It'll act like a dead or weakened battery.

You can get a decent battery at Wally World (Wal-Mart) with what is supposed to be new technology. Its an AGM battery (YTX20L-BS 12V-18AH)the AGM is Absorbed Glass Mat and leak proof because all the electroliteis absorbed in the matts, you can run upside down if you wanted. Its worth checking out.Its $140 + Tx in Canada.

Yuasa YTX20L-BS motorcycle battery 2 Years, 11 Months ago
Hey Salty and Others:

People do seem to like the Yuasas. And they come pretty cheap at this place:
www.batterytex.com

I've dealt with them several times over the last couple of yrs. Good service, shipping, etc.
